Using ANN modeling for pavement layer moduli backcalculation as a function of traffic speed deflections

Gamal M. Mabrouk et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new methodology for backcalculating pavement layer moduli using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and shows that the developed ANN model has an overall coefficient of determination of 94.08%. The backcalculated moduli were validated against laboratory and field data, with average root mean square errors of 5.42%, 4.33%, and 6.50% for asphalt, base, and subgrade layers, respectively.

Numerical investigation of pavement responses under TSD and FWD loading

Miaomiao Zhang et al.

Summary: The Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) is a tool used for pavement structural evaluation which has advantages over the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) in terms of traffic interruption and testing efficiency, but its applicability still needs to be further verified. The pavement responses caused by TSD are influenced by dynamic effects and viscoelasticity of the AC layer, while FWD has accumulated more comprehensive data and evaluation methods over time.

Determining pavement structural number with traffic speed deflectometer measurements

Miaomiao Zhang et al.

Summary: Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) overcomes the slow operating speed of the conventional Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), but introduces difficulties in estimating the effective structural number (SN). A new approach using TSD measurements to determine SN has been proposed by modifying the AASHTO method.

Early detection of failures from vehicle equipment data using K-means clustering design

Ehsan Mohamed et al.

Summary: The paper presents a unique approach to early diagnosis of machinery failures through data mining from vehicle construction equipment, using the K-means clustering algorithm to discover inconsistencies in data stored in a warehouse. By processing and clustering vehicle equipment data, early defects identification is achieved, with results showing the K-means algorithm producing more accurate results than other methods.

Development of an Artificial Neural Network-Based Procedure for the Verification of Traffic Speed Deflectometer Measurements

Hossam Abohamer et al.

Summary: This study developed a reliable and straightforward procedure for verifying TSD measurements using limited FWD measurements. Through training and verification on FWD and TSD measurements from two deflection-testing programs, an artificial neural network model accurately predicted FWD measurements with high accuracy. The proposed verification procedure showed acceptable accuracy and could be used to verify TSD measurements before conducting deflection measurements at the network level.

Utilization of traffic speed deflectometer for pavement structural evaluations

Feipeng Xiao et al.

Summary: The Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) is a reliable tool for evaluating pavement structural conditions by measuring deflection velocity and calculating pavement moduli using different methods. The results from TSD measurements show good correlation with traditional FWD measurements, indicating its promising prospect in pavement structural evaluations. Additionally, the pavement roughness significantly affects TSD measurements.
