Remaining life prediction of lithium-ion batteries based on health management: A review

Kai Song et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on developing a Lithium-ion battery remaining practical life prediction algorithm to improve its adaptability and accuracy. It summarizes the fusion model methods based on data-driven, model-driven and the combination of the two, and discusses the problems they face. Accurate estimation of the remaining life of lithium batteries not only allows users to obtain battery life information in time, replace batteries that are about to fail, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the battery pack but also ensures that lithium-ion batteries are used as the primary energy supply and energy storage to a large extent. It also outlines the domestic and international research status and methods of lithium-ion battery remaining life prediction, as well as the main factors affecting battery life and prediction accuracy. The advantages and limitations of various prediction methods are summarized and compared, current technical research difficulties are outlined, urgent problems to be solved are identified, and the development trend of battery life prediction technology research is discussed.

Life prediction model for lithium-ion battery considering fast-charging protocol

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a model for predicting the cycle life of lithium-ion batteries using charging data and discharge curve features. The model combines the features from both charging and discharging processes and uses random forest regression for prediction. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms existing algorithms in predicting battery cycle life.

Benefit assessment of second-life electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries in distributed power grid applications

Ziyou Song et al.

Summary: This work focuses on capturing the economic benefits of using second-life (SL) electric vehicle (EV) batteries in power systems. Instead of bulk storage applications, distributing the SL batteries at the residential and micro-grid level proves to be more beneficial, avoiding costly refurbishment and operation risks.

Investigating greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts from the production of lithium-ion batteries in China

Xin Lai et al.

Summary: This study investigates eleven ecological metrics of six typical types of LIBs using the life cycle assessment method based on local data in China, and evaluates the ecological impacts and carbon neutralization potential of battery production. The results show that the ecological indexes of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are better than ternary batteries, prioritizing LFP batteries can reduce environmental damage. Furthermore, the study predicts a reduction in GHG emissions from battery production in China by at least 30% and 90% in 2030 and 2060, respectively, compared to 2020, indicating the importance of green energy in achieving carbon neutralization in battery production.

Electric vehicle lithium-ion battery recycled content standards for the US - targets, costs, and environmental impacts

Jessica Dunn et al.

Summary: Lithium-ion battery recycling is crucial for reducing the environmental impact of electric vehicles and securing domestic supply chains. However, the US lacks policies for battery recycling. The European Union has proposed recycled content standards to promote a circular battery ecosystem. This analysis suggests that a significant portion of cobalt, lithium, and nickel demand in the future could be met through retired supply, but domestic recycling is more expensive than exporting to China. Policy measures may be necessary to ensure the domestic recycling of critical materials.

Evaluating the factors influencing purchase intention of electric vehicles in households owning conventional vehicles

V. Vijai Krishnan et al.

Summary: Countries have started developing policies to promote sustainable and innovative transport technologies, with electric vehicles being considered as a viable option. A study in India revealed that factors such as perceived benefits, social influence, and price acceptance have a positive impact on EV purchase intention, while perceived barriers, policy attributes, and ease of use have a negative effect on EV adoption. People with lower income, higher education, and more experience driving conventional vehicles are more likely to adopt EVs.
