Evidence of gene-gene interaction in hidradenitis suppurativa: a nationwide registry study of Danish twins

R. Kjaersgaard Andersen et al.

Summary: The study analyzed data from the Danish Twin Registry and the Danish National Patient Registry to estimate the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors underlying susceptibility to Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Results showed that genetics account for the majority of HS susceptibility, with the possibility of up to six interacting loci, indicating gene-gene interactions play a significant role in the disease. The findings suggest new approaches for future HS genome-wide association studies to assess potential interactions at a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-SNP level.

Summary: The study found that 16.6% of inflammatory bowel disease participants had a lifetime diagnosis of a substance use disorder. Risk factors for SUD in this population included smoking history, male sex, lifetime anxiety disorder, and higher pain impact.

Summary: The study revealed that in Brazil, Crohn's disease (CD) is more common than ulcerative colitis (UC) among IBD patients, with most patients being female and over 95% receiving treatment at enrollment. There are regional variations in IBD management, with CD patients commonly treated with biologics and immunosuppressors, while UC patients mainly receive 5-ASA treatment.

Summary: The study demonstrated that TFA significantly improved DSS-induced colitis, with a therapeutic effect similar to PAT, primarily by modulating the gut microbiota, increasing the abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila, and enhancing colonic integrity and inhibiting inflammatory responses.
