Phase transformation and slag evolution of vanadium-titanium magnetite pellets during softening-melting process

Qingqing Hu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the softening-melting behavior of vanadium-titanium magnetite (VTM) pellets and reveals that the softening temperature of the pellets is 75 degrees C, the melting temperature interval is 181 degrees C, and the permeability index is 507 kPa.degrees C. Titanium mainly enters the slag phase while hematite is gradually reduced to metallic iron. The study also finds that the slag phase consists primarily of spinel, silicates, and wustite, with a gradual decrease in FeO content during slag evolution.

Exploring selected pathways to low and zero CO2 emissions in China's iron and steel industry and their impacts on resources and energy

Shaohui Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study that used the MESSAGEix-China iron and steel model to explore pathways for achieving zero CO2 emissions in China's iron and steel industry. The study found that rapid adoption of scrap-based Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) and hydrogen-based Direct Reduced Iron (DRI)-EAFs steel-making technologies can significantly reduce CO2 emissions by 2060. However, carbon sink or negative emission technologies will still be needed to achieve carbon neutrality. The study also highlights the varying impacts of different technologies on material and energy consumption.

Use of Hydrogen-Rich Gas in Blast Furnace Ironmaking of V-bearing Titanomagnetite: Mass and Energy Balance Calculations

Xudong Gao et al.

Summary: This study establishes the operating window for smelting vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite in a blast furnace based on the energy and mass balance of the furnace. It calculates and analyzes the effects of injecting different amounts of hydrogen-rich gases on the adiabatic flame temperature and top gas temperature, as well as the influence of blast temperature and preheating temperature of the gases on the operating window. The study provides a theoretical reference for the practice of hydrogen-rich smelting in a blast furnace.

Smelting Vanadium-Titanium Magnetite by COREX Process: Effect of V-Ti Bearing Pellet Ratio on the Softening and Melting Behavior of Mixed Burden

Chen Yin et al.

Summary: The addition of V-Ti bearing pellet (VTP) under simulated COREX conditions affects the softening and melting behavior of slag by generating FeO.TiO2, leading to lower temperatures and promoting the burden dropping process, thereby weakening slag foaming.

Junyi Xiang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility and reliability of monitoring the foaming phenomenon originating from the reaction of titanium-bearing blast furnace slag using the current change in a circuit. The relationship between foaming height and current change was established through experiments at different levels of basicity and TiO2 content at high temperature.

Reduction behaviors of vanadium-titanium magnetite with H2 via a fluidized bed

Jianwen Yu et al.

Summary: A new efficient and clean utilization technique for vanadium-titanium magnetite based on fluidized bed hydrogen reduction was developed in this study. Experimental results showed that a high metallization degree could be obtained under specific conditions, and the aggregation of metallic iron grains into flakes was observed during the reduction process.
