Carbazole-s-sulfobenzimide derivative exhibiting mechanochromic thermally activated delayed fluorescence as emitter for flexible OLEDs: Theoretical and experimental insights

Yan Danyliv et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of donor-sigma-acceptor emitter that exhibits thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) is demonstrated for the first time, with sulfobenzimide moiety used as an acceptor unit. The emission of the synthesized compound in different solutions can be attributed to either locally excited carbazole moiety or trough-space charge transfer (exciplex-like) between carbazole and sulfobenzimide units. In the solid state, aggregation-induced emission enhancement and different emission colors are observed due to different conformations. The mechanoluminescence and electroluminescence properties of the compound are extensively studied, and the compound shows good performance as a non-doped TADF emitter in organic light-emitting diodes fabricated on different substrates.

Recent progress in thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters for nondoped organic light-emitting diodes

Yi-Zhong Shi et al.

Summary: This review mainly discusses the application of nondoped organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) in high-performance devices. The thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) mechanism can achieve 100% internal quantum efficiency, but the quenching of triplet excitons remains a challenge. The review analyzes the mechanism, exciton leaking channels, and molecular design strategies of TADF emitters, and provides an outlook on their future prospects.

Narrowband blue emission with insensitivity to the doping concentration from an oxygen-bridged triarylboron-based TADF emitter: nondoped OLEDs with a high external quantum efficiency up to 21.4%

Jianmei Han et al.

Summary: This study successfully designed and synthesized two blue TADF emitters by incorporating carbazole fragments into an oxygen-bridged triarylboron acceptor. The emitters showed significantly different photophysical properties depending on the linking mode. One of the emitters demonstrated high PLQY and narrowband emission, resulting in a non-doped blue device with high EQE and narrow FWHM. This compound is the first blue TADF emitter to achieve both narrow bandwidth and high electroluminescence efficiency in nondoped blue TADF-OLEDs.

Luminescent High-Mobility 2D Organic Semiconductor Single Crystals

Roman S. Fedorenko et al.

Summary: 2D organic semiconductor single crystals have the potential to be used in ultrathin, flexible, and transparent field-effect devices. However, the light emissive properties of these crystals have not been reported, and achieving both high charge-carrier mobility and bright luminescence in one material is still a challenge. In this study, a high-mobility 2D organic semiconductor based on a BTBT-derivative is presented, which demonstrates both high charge-carrier mobility and prominent light emissive properties.
