Effects of Magnetic Stimulation on Dental Implant Osseointegration: A Scoping Review

Gennaro Cecoro et al.

Summary: This scoping review evaluates the influence of magnetic field stimulation on dental implant osseointegration. In vitro studies show a positive effect of Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields (PEMF) on bone cell proliferation, while the effects of Static magnetic Fields from permanent Magnets (SFM) are conflicting. Both types of stimulation induce cell adhesion and osteogenic differentiation. In vivo studies demonstrate increased bone-to-implant contact rate and positive effects on implant stability. However, further preclinical and clinical studies are needed to assess the effect of magnetic fields on dental implant osseointegration more clearly.

Epithelial Biological Response to Machined Titanium vs. PVD Zirconium-Coated Titanium: An In Vitro Study

Lucia Meme et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the biological response of epithelial cells to machined titanium Ti-6Al-4V grade 5 and titanium Ti-6Al-4V grade 5 coated with zirconia (ZrN) by physical vapor deposition (PVD). The results showed that the ZrN-coated surface was smoother and more homogeneous, and there were no significant differences in cell viability or expression of E-cadherin and Integrin-alpha 6 beta 4 between the coated and uncoated surfaces. Therefore, ZrN-coated titanium surfaces seem to be similar to uncoated surfaces for keratinocyte adhesion and proliferation.
