Placebo and hypnosis in the clinical setting: Contextual factors in hypnotic analgesia

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of the relationship between patient and therapist in the placebo effect of hypnotic treatment for pain, finding efficacy of hypnotic analgesia and improvement in pain outcomes in the self-hypnosis group. The affective dimension of pain showed significant improvement after hypnotic analgesia, with better outcomes in the therapist-administered hypnosis group.
