Early Detection of Defects through the Identification of Distortion Characteristics in Ultrasonic Responses

Pietro Burrascano et al.

Summary: This paper explores the use of non-linear damage index based on the Hammerstein model to improve the sensitivity of ultrasonic techniques for defect detection in solid structures. The proposed damage index shows higher sensitivity for small defects and better estimation stability in the presence of additive noise, as demonstrated through several experiments. These findings highlight the potential of using non-linear models to enhance defect detection procedures in structural testing.

Noise Reduction in the Swept Sine Identification Procedure of Nonlinear Systems

Pietro Burrascano et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the robustness of the Hammerstein model identification technique based on swept sine excitation signals in the presence of noise during the measurement step. An original technique to mitigate the effects of additive noise is proposed to improve the accuracy of model parameter estimation. The effectiveness of this mitigation methodology is confirmed through simulations and experiments on laboratory data.

Analysis of Explainers of Black Box Deep Neural Networks for Computer Vision: A Survey

Vanessa Buhrmester et al.

Summary: Deep learning is a state-of-the-art technique used for inferring extensive or complex data, but its black box nature can lead to lack of transparency and potential bias. Explainers have been developed to address this issue by providing insight into the inner workings of machine learning models like Deep Neural Networks.

A Swept-Sine-Type Single Measurement to Estimate Intermodulation Distortion in a Dynamic Range of Audio Signal Amplitudes

Pietro Burrascano et al.

Summary: This article proposes an original estimation technique targeting the third-order IMD based on a single detection, which can estimate the IMD for the actual signal level used and extrapolate the estimate to different signal levels. Experimental verifications on real audio devices have validated the procedure, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
