Analysis of contributory factors of fatal pedestrian crashes by mixed logit model and association rules

Maria Rella Riccardi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the factors associated with fatal pedestrian crashes in Italy and provides insights for the development of effective countermeasures. The study recommends using the mixed logit model and association rules model as complementary approaches to understand the contributory factors and their interdependencies. The findings provide new insights for transportation agencies to improve pedestrian safety.

DESIGN AND CALIBRATION OF THE SYSTEM SUPERVISING BELT TENSION AND WEAR IN AN INDUSTRIAL FEEDER

Tomasz Ryba et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the issue of supervising belt tension and wear in industrial feeders. The authors propose a system based on strain gauges that are incorporated into the roller, allowing them to measure the belt pressure during each revolution. Calibration and uncertainty analysis were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the system. The results indicate that the main source of uncertainty is the approximation function, but the other sources of uncertainty are significantly smaller. The final function provided results with an accuracy of approximately 10% of the actual measured value, which is considered satisfactory for this particular industrial application.

The Analysis of Pneumatic Wheel Rim Deformation While Hitting an Obstacle

Slawomir Tarkowski et al.

Summary: The article presents the results of simulations using the finite element method (FEM) to investigate the damage caused to the wheel rim by hitting an obstacle. These results can be used as comparative data for expert opinions on the cause of the damage. Additionally, the data obtained from the FEM simulation can aid in the geometric optimization of the rim to create a rim that is resistant to this type of damage.

Are EDR Devices Undoubtedly Helpful in the Reconstruction of a Road Traffic Accident?

Marek Guzek et al.

Summary: The paper explores the impact of simplified EDR design on vehicle motion reconstruction, finding that such simplifications can lead to significant errors, especially when there are significant changes in the roll and pitch angles of the vehicle body or lack of symmetry in maneuver parameters and constant sign of roll angles.

A Road Safety-Based Selection Methodology for Professional Drivers: Behaviour and Accident Rate Analysis

Jurijus Zaranka et al.

Summary: This paper examines the behavior of road users and the impact of these factors on the reliability and performance of professional drivers, focusing on selecting drivers based on individual and psychophysiological characteristics. Statistical analysis showed that 29-33 years of professional driving experience is most conducive to safe driving, and accidents were more likely to occur after rest days due to long hours and inadequate rest. Research highlights the importance of specific requirements for selecting professional drivers in order to reduce losses from road accidents.

Rosolino Vaiana et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the safety performance of a high-risk rural road in Southern Italy using the RSI approach, finding a significant relationship between infrastructure deficiencies and accident frequency/severity, with high driveway density impacting crash frequency. Mathematical models were proposed to analyze the contribution of infrastructure-related variables to crash occurrences and a calibrated prediction model was suggested.
