Stochastic Model-Predictive Control with Uncertainty Estimation for Autonomous Driving at Uncontrolled Intersections

Yonghwan Jeong

Summary: This paper presents an uncontrolled intersection-passing algorithm using stochastic model-predictive control and prediction uncertainty estimation for autonomous vehicles. The algorithm utilizes sensor information and high-definition maps to predict future behavior of vehicles approaching intersections. Through target state prediction and a motion planner modules, the algorithm estimates prediction uncertainty and defines probability distribution of the stochastic model-predictive controller to cope with time-varying uncertainty characteristics. The algorithm improves safety and comfort at uncontrolled intersections by considering uncertainty of sensors and prediction.

Current Challenges and Future Opportunities for XAI in Machine Learning-Based Clinical Decision Support Systems: A Systematic Review

Anna Markella Antoniadi et al.

Summary: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence have great potential in transforming medicine, but the lack of transparency in AI applications, especially in Clinical Decision Support Systems, can lead to issues of reliance. Explainable AI (XAI) provides rationale for users to understand AI outputs, but there is a distinct lack of XAI application and user studies in the context of CDSS. Further research is needed to explore the opportunities and challenges of implementing XAI in CDSS.

Improved Surprise Adequacy Tools for Corner Case Data Description and Detection

Tinghui Ouyang et al.

Summary: In the face of increasing applications of AI models, it is crucial for designers to construct safety-critical systems, especially in life- and property-related fields. Corner case data, as a major factor affecting the safety of AI models, and its related detection techniques play an important role in the AI design phase and quality assurance. This paper introduces three modified versions of distance-based-SA (DSA) for detecting corner cases in classification problems, showing feasibility and usefulness through experiment analysis on various datasets. The developed DSA tools demonstrate improved performance in describing corner cases' behaviors through qualitative and quantitative experiments.

Augmenting Medical Diagnosis Decisions? An Investigation into Physicians' Decision-Making Process with Artificial Intelligence

Ekaterina Jussupow et al.

Summary: Systems based on artificial intelligence increasingly support physicians in diagnostic decisions, but research on the cognitive challenges of decision augmentation with AI-based systems is lacking. Our study reveals that physicians use metacognitions to monitor and control their reasoning when assessing AI advice, which ultimately determines whether they can fully benefit from AI or not. The crucial role of human actors in compensating for technological errors in decision augmentation with AI is highlighted.
