A Multifunctional Neutralizing Antibody-Conjugated Nanoparticle Inhibits and Inactivates SARS-CoV-2

Xiaolei Cai et al.

Summary: The study introduces a multifunctional nanoparticle that can capture and inactivate SARS-CoV-2 virus, efficiently blocking viral infection to host cells through surface neutralizing antibodies in vitro. Additionally, the nanoparticle has photothermal function to generate heat for virus inactivation. It significantly outperforms neutralizing antibodies in treating authentic SARS-CoV-2 infection in vivo and provides a flexible platform for potential broad protection against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.

Emerging Designs of Aggregation-Induced Emission Agents for Enhanced Phototherapy Applications

Rui Qu et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent advances in the development of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) phototherapy agents for enhanced photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) performances in biomedical applications. It discusses the design strategies of AIE agents to boost reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation or regulate ROS types, as well as the designs and examples of AIE agents that enhance PTT performances through molecular motions.

Manipulating molecular aggregation and crystalline behavior of A-DA'D-A type acceptors by side chain engineering in organic solar cells

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, three A-DA'D-A type acceptors with different branching positions on the pyrrole motif were discussed to investigate the relationship between molecular aggregation, crystalline behavior, and device performance in organic solar cells. It was found that the distance between the branching position and the main backbone affected optical absorption, energy levels, and device performance. Side chain engineering proved to be an effective strategy for tuning molecular aggregation and crystallinity, thereby improving the photovoltaic performance of acceptors in A-DA'D-A type molecules.

Highly Efficient and Rapid Inactivation of Coronavirus on Non-Metal Hydrophobic Laser-Induced Graphene in Mild Conditions

Libei Huang et al.

Summary: The prevalence of COVID-19 has brought many challenges globally, and while vaccines show potential in controlling the spread, developing surfaces that can effectively reduce virus transmission and infectivity is also crucial. Research has shown that laser-induced graphene (LIG) has the capacity to effectively inhibit the spread of coronaviruses, with advantages in stability and energy conservation.

The role of the envelope protein in the stability of a coronavirus model membrane against an ethanolic disinfectant

Shubhadip Das et al.

Summary: Ethanol is highly effective against enveloped viruses by disintegrating the protective envelope, with interactions between coronavirus envelope protein and membrane environment playing key roles. Ethanol disrupts model coronavirus membrane by increasing lateral area, thinning the membrane, and disordering lipid tails, enhancing bilayer permeability. The study reveals ordering of lipid tails facilitated by envelope protein and disintegration of lipid bilayer at around 25 mol.% ethanol.
