Biochemical Evaluation of Agaricus and Pleurotus Strains in Batch Cultures for Production Optimization of Valuable Metabolites

Dimitrios Argyropoulos et al.

Summary: The production of various biochemical compounds from the mycelium of four strains of Basidiomycetes species during batch culture in shaking flasks was studied. The results showed differences in biomass and product concentrations among different strains. The strong correlation between RNA and biomass/protein synthesis was observed. The production of total glucan and glucanase also increased during cultivation.

Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Conversions of Olive Mill Wastewater-Based Media by Pleurotus pulmonarius Cultures

Ilias Diamantis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the growth ability and compound transformation of Pleurotus pulmonarius mushroom in a culture medium containing toxic compounds and glucose. The results showed that the addition of glucose promoted biomass, polysaccharide, and lipid production, as well as increased the concentration of unsaturated fatty acids and total phenolic compounds. Moreover, the mushroom demonstrated significant phenolic compound reduction and color removal in the medium.

Diversity and Host Relationships of the Mycoparasite Sepedonium (Hypocreales, Ascomycota) in Temperate Central Chile

Josefa Binimelis-Salazar et al.

Summary: This study presents the first major survey of regional diversity, distribution, and host-association of Sepedonium, revealing endemic and specific host-parasite guilds in Southern South America and describing a new species. The landscape in temperate central Chile, consisting of exotic timber plantations and remnants of native Nothofagus forests, facilitates a unique combination of endemic and adventitious Boletales hosts. Phylogenetic reconstructions and taxonomic diagnoses were performed, identifying four Sepedonium species including the newly described S. loyorum, which showed distinct characteristics and host preferences. Insights into ecological and biogeographical aspects of mycoparasite and ectomycorrhizal fungal hosts are provided.
