Effect of phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor rolipram on colonic hypermotility in water avoidance stress rat model

FangTing Yuan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of rolipram, a phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor, in water avoidance stress-induced colonic hypermotility. The results showed that rolipram could relieve stress-induced gastrointestinal hypermotility, possibly through the cAMP-PKA-p-CREB pathway and NO pathway.

Saccharomyces boulardii, a yeast probiotic, inhibits gut motility through upregulating intestinal serotonin transporter and modulating gut microbiota

Yu Gu et al.

Summary: The study found that the supernatant of Saccharomyces boulardii can upregulate serotonin transporter expression by activating the epidermal growth factor receptor, and it can also modulate gut microbiota to inhibit gut motility.

Saccharomyces boulardiiCNCM I-745 modulates the microbiota-gut-brain axis in a humanized mouse model of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Marco Constante et al.

Summary: Using a gnotobiotic mouse model colonized with microbiota from patients with IBS and comorbid anxiety, this study investigated the therapeutic potential of the probiotic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii strain CNCM I-745. The results showed that administration of S. boulardii normalized gastrointestinal transit and anxiety-like behavior in mice with IBS+A microbiota, possibly through effects on pain pathways, direct modulation of the microbiota, and indole production by commensal bacteria.

Colonic Gene Expression and Fecal Microbiota in Diarrhea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Increased Toll-like Receptor 4 but Minimal Inflammation and no Response to Mesalazine

Jonna Jalanka et al.

Summary: The study found no substantial inflammation in biopsies from well-characterized IBS-D cohort compared to healthy controls. Higher expression of TLR4 and related receptors was associated with greater urgency in IBS patients. Mesalazine had minimal effect on gene expression and microbiota composition.
