Influence of altitude on secondary metabolites, antioxidants, and antimicrobial activities of Himalayan yew (Taxus wallichiana)

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of altitude on the bioactive compounds, antioxidants, and antimicrobial activity of Taxus wallichiana. Results revealed that the accumulation of bioactive compounds in Taxus wallichiana needles depends on the edaphic and climatic conditions of the habitat, and the antimicrobial activity is mainly due to taxol, flavanol, and tannin compounds.

Investigations on Anticancer Potentials by DNA Binding and Cytotoxicity Studies for Newly Synthesized and Characterized Imidazolidine and Thiazolidine-Based Isatin Derivatives

Summary: In this study, imidazolidine and thiazolidine-based isatin derivatives were synthesized and tested for their interactions with DNA. The results showed strong binding affinity between these compounds and DNA, with mixed mode of interactions. Among all compounds, imidazolidine (IST-02) and thiazolidine (IST-04) showed the strongest and most spontaneous binding interactions with DNA. Additionally, these compounds exhibited high cytotoxicity against the HuH-7 cancer cell line while showing relatively lower cytotoxicity against normal cell lines. Therefore, imidazolidine (IST-02) and thiazolidine (IST-04)-based isatin derivatives are promising candidates for anticancer drugs, with imidazolidine (IST-02) being the more promising.
