Zero-Bias Power-Detector Circuits based on MoS2 Field-Effect Transistors on Wafer-Scale Flexible Substrates

Eros Reato et al.

Summary: We demonstrate the design, fabrication, and characterization of wafer-scale, zero-bias power detectors based on 2D MoS2 field-effect transistors (FETs). By analyzing and comparing two different MoS2 sheets in terms of performance, we design power-detector prototypes that exploit the nonlinearity of the transistors. The fabricated circuits exhibit excellent performance in a wide frequency range, outperforming other semiconductor technologies.

WiFi Energy-Harvesting Antenna Inspired by the Resonant Magnetic Dipole Metamaterial

Zhenci Sun et al.

Summary: WiFi energy harvesting is a promising solution for powering microsensors and microsystems by collecting electromagnetic energies from modern daily lives. This paper proposes a metamaterial-inspired antenna (MIA) based on resonant magnetic dipole for harvesting WiFi energy. The MIA consists of metallic split-ring resonators (SRRs) in a coupled configuration, allowing impedance matching without complicated networks. The collected energy can be converted to DC voltages via a rectifier circuit. Experimental results show that the designed MIA is capable of resonating at 2.4 GHz and harvesting WiFi energy efficiently.

Oxides for Rectenna Technology

Ivona Z. Mitrovic et al.

Summary: The quest for utilizing untapped renewable infrared energy sources has spurred significant research efforts into designing, fabricating, and optimizing a self-biased rectenna that operates without external bias voltage. The focus is on the metal insulator metal (MIM) diode, which has fast response time due to femtosecond tunneling process governing current transport. Fabrication of single, double, and triple insulator MIM diodes have been reviewed, with attention to key figures of merit like zero-bias responsivity and zero-bias dynamic resistance. Various oxide combinations have been explored, with sub-nanometer accuracy in oxide stoichiometry and thicknesses seen to optimize responsivity and resistance in advanced rectennas.
