Exploring the photocatalytic conversion mechanism of gaseous formaldehyde degradation on TiO2-x-OV surface

Xinwei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, Sr-doped TiO2-x-OV catalysts were designed and synthesized to investigate the conversion mechanism of photocatalytic gaseous formaldehyde (HCHO) degradation. The results showed that foreign-element doping reduced Ti4+ to a lower oxidation state, facilitating internal charge kinetics and electron distribution, leading to an electron-localized phenomenon in TiO2-x-OV which enhanced ROS generation. Surface adsorbed O-2 and lattice O were found to engage in the isomerisation of HCHO on TiO2-x-OV and TiO2, respectively, revealing insights into the photocatalytic oxidation of HCHO.

Promotion of formaldehyde degradation by electro-Fenton: Controlling the distribution of •OH and formaldehyde near cathode to increase the reaction probability

Shiwei Lai et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the control of the reaction region through the nitrogen-doped modification of the activated carbon cathode to enhance the degradation of formaldehyde in the electro-Fenton system. Nitrogen doping improves the adsorption capacity of the modified cathode for formaldehyde and H2O2, and enhances Fe2+ regeneration and the generation of •OH, promoting the degradation of formaldehyde.

Removal of organic pollutants from wastewater by advanced oxidation processes and its combination with membrane processes

Fatima Ezzahra Titchou et al.

Summary: Wastewater treatment is a crucial global issue, with organic pollutants posing risks to the environment, leading to the widespread use of membrane filtration, AOPs, and their combinations. Technologies such as photocatalytic ozonation, photoperoxonation, and ultrasound associated processes have shown high efficiency in removing organic pollutants, with the potential for significant cost savings. AOPs/membranes coupled processes are effective in enhancing treatment efficiency and reducing overall costs, offering advantages such as improved water quality, energy savings, and environmental friendliness.

Improved Oxygen Activation over a Carbon/Co3O4 Nanocomposite for Efficient Catalytic Oxidation of Formaldehyde at Room Temperature

Rong Li et al.

Summary: Oxygen activation is improved by a carbon/Co3O4 nanocomposite, leading to enhanced formaldehyde removal efficiency above 90%. The composite structure induces disorder on the Co3O4 surface lattice, creating more oxygen vacancies and improving surface reducibility, resulting in accelerated production of reactive oxygen species for efficient HCHO oxidation.

Advanced oxidation of high concentrations of formaldehyde in aqueous solution under fluorescent and UV light

Fatma Deniz et al.

Summary: Under fluorescent light, the pH value of the sample had a more significant impact on the oxidation of formaldehyde, while hydrogen peroxide was consumed at all pH values under UV light. The most effective oxidation was found at the original pH value (7.00) and 1:2 ratio of formaldehyde to hydrogen peroxide under UV light.
