New Palladium - ZrO2 Nano-Architectures from Thermal Transformation of UiO-66-NH2 for Carbonylative Suzuki and Hydrogenation Reactions

Waleed Alsalahi et al.

Summary: The new nanocomposites Pd/C/ZrO2, PdO/ZrO2, and Pd/PdO/ZrO2, prepared by thermal conversion of Pd@UiO-66-Zr-NH2 (MOF), showed significantly higher efficiency in carbonylative Suzuki coupling under 1 atm CO compared to the original material. The most active PdO/ZrO2 composite achieved benzophenone formation with a TOF of up to 1600 h(-1), while the Pd@UiO-66-Zr-NH2 reached much lower TOF values of 51-95 h(-1). Additionally, good results were obtained in the transfer hydrogenation of benzophenones to alcohols using Pd/C/ZrO2 and PdO/ZrO2 catalysts under microwave irradiation.

Quenching of the Eu3+ Luminescence by Cu2+ Ions in the Nanosized Hydroxyapatite Designed for Future Bio-Detection

Katarzyna Szyszka et al.

Summary: Hydroxyapatite nanopowders of Eu3+-doped, Cu2+-doped, and Eu3+/Cu2+-co-doped Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2) were prepared by a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The luminescence of Eu3+ ions was strongly quenched by Cu2+ ions, resulting in much shorter luminescence decay time in Eu3+/Cu2+ co-doped materials compared to Eu3+-doped materials. Multiple coordination environments for copper(II) ion were revealed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique.
