Remarkable Single Atom Catalyst of Transition Metal (Fe, Co & Ni) Doped on C2N Surface for Hydrogen Dissociation Reaction

Ahmed Bilal Shah et al.

Summary: In this study, the hydrogen dissociation reaction on the transition metal doped carbon nitride (C2N) surface is theoretically studied through single atom catalysis. Results revealed that the Fe@C2N surface is the most suitable catalyst for H-2 dissociation reaction with an activation barrier of 0.36 eV, which is comparably better than already reported noble metal catalysts.

Therapeutic potential of C2N as targeted drug delivery system for fluorouracil and nitrosourea to treat cancer: a theoretical study

Faiza Ahsan et al.

Summary: Conventional drug delivery systems face challenges of poor absorption and bioavailability at the target site. 2D porous nanostructures, such as C2N, can offer improved drug delivery systems by providing suitable cavities for drug molecules. This study explores the potential of C2N surface as a drug delivery system for nitrosourea and fluorouracil. The results show that both drugs have good adsorption on the C2N surface and C2N is a better carrier for nitrosourea compared to fluorouracil. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that slightly elevated temperature can cause off-loading of the drugs at the target cancer cells. Overall, C2N is found to be a better carrier for these drugs compared to other surfaces.

Computational investigation of a covalent triazine framework (CTF-0) as an efficient electrochemical sensor

Sehrish Sarfaraz et al.

Summary: In this study, a covalent triazine framework (CTF-0) was investigated as an electrochemical sensor for industrial pollutants. Various analyses were conducted to understand the interaction between the pollutants and CTF-0. The results showed that the pollutants are physically adsorbed onto the CTF-0 surface, and dispersion plays a major role in the overall energy contribution. Additionally, the charge transfer and reduction in energy gap indicate the sensitivity of CTF-0 towards different pollutants.

Covalent Organic Framework (C6N6) as a Drug Delivery Platform for Fluorouracil to Treat Cancerous Cells: A DFT Study

Mohammed A. Alkhalifah et al.

Summary: In this study, we report the use of covalent triazine framework C6N6 as a drug delivery carrier for fluorouracil (FU) and nitrosourea (NU) anti-cancer drugs. The results show that the FU and NU drugs are physically adsorbed on C6N6 and stabilized through van der Waals interactions. There is an appreciable charge transfer from the drugs to the carrier, with a higher charge transfer observed for the FU@C6N6 complex compared to the NU@C6N6 complex. The adsorption of FU on C6N6 causes a more pronounced decrease in the HOMO-LUMO gap compared to that of NU. The study also reveals that the adsorption energy of the FU@C6N6 complex decreases the most in an acidic medium, indicating that FU can easily be released from the carrier to target cancerous cells with a low pH. These findings suggest that C6N6 has the potential to be used as a nanocarrier for FU in cancer treatment and motivate further exploration of new surfaces for drug delivery applications.

Selective decoration of nitrogenated holey graphene (C2N) with titanium clusters for enhanced hydrogen storage application

Puspamitra Panigrahi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the high H-2 storage capacity of 2D nitrogenated holey graphene functionalized with Ti-n (n = 1-5) clusters, with each Ti capable of adsorbing up to 10 H(2) molecules and achieving a storage capacity of 6.8 wt%. Thermodynamic analysis was conducted to study the H-2 desorption mechanism under different pressure and temperature conditions, further reinforcing the potential of C2N-Ti as an efficient H-2 storage material.

Summary: This study successfully demonstrated the formation of a novel 2D indium oxide, achieved through targeted intercalation and deposition of indium atoms at the graphene/SiC interface. A unique structural configuration with two sub-layers of indium atoms was observed, and bonding of oxygen atoms to indium atoms was confirmed. The 2D indium oxide exhibited a wide bandgap energy of 4.1 eV as estimated by conductive atomic force microscopy measurements.

Adsorption and sensor applications of C2N surface for G-series and mustard series chemical warfare agents

Muhammad Yar et al.

Summary: The study reveals that toxic chemical warfare agents are weakly physically adsorbed on the carbon nitride surface, mainly due to dispersion interactions between CWAs and C2N. The adsorption of different CWAs on C2N surface affects the charge transfer towards or away from C2N differently.
