Thermal stability enhancement of ultrathin Ag film electrodes by incorporating atomic oxygen

Eunwook Jeong et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that using a highly smooth, less defective, and completely continuous ultrathin Ag film can effectively suppress thermal dewetting through the atomic O-mediated Ag growth mode. Strong O interference at the outer surfaces of Ag nanoscopic geometries provides morphological perfection and chemical modification, contributing to inhibiting thermally activated Ag atom migration. The reduction in free energies due to the incorporation of minimal oxygen atoms into interstitial Ag lattice sites without forming oxide phases alleviates thermal dewetting.

Low-Temperature Oxide/Metal/Oxide Multilayer Films as Highly Transparent Conductive Electrodes for Optoelectronic Devices

Yunlong Zhang et al.

Summary: Transparent conductors are crucial for optoelectronic and flexible electronic devices, with oxide/metal/oxide (OMO) multilayer films showing promise as an alternative to traditional transparent conductive oxides (TCOs). However, deposition methods like magnetron sputtering or thermal evaporation can lead to device performance deterioration due to ion bombardment or high temperatures. New techniques, such as reactive plasma deposition (RPD) for high-quality MGZO films and ultrathin Ag films prepared by magnetron sputtering, are being explored to improve conductivity and transmittance in OMO structures.
