Gradual growth of ZnO nanoparticles from globules-like to nanorods-like shapes: Effect of annealing temperature

Mansour Mohamed et al.

Summary: In this study, the microstructure, optical properties, and high photocatalytic performance of coprecipitated and post-annealed ZnO nanoparticles were reported. The spherical-like nanoparticles gradually transformed into nanorod-like shapes by post annealing, and the crystallite size and number of unit cells per particle increased while the dislocation density and residual stress decreased. The optical energy gap decreased with increasing annealing temperature. The photo-catalytic efficiency of up to 95% was achieved in the photo-degradation of methylene blue, and nanoparticles annealed at low temperature exhibited better performance.
