A comparison study on aluminum-water reaction with different catalysts

Wenqi Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the aluminum-water reactions with different organic and inorganic catalysts and examines their effects on hydrogen production rate, yield, and the morphology and structure of Al(OH)3 product. It is found that the ability to destroy alumina film and the alkalinity of the catalyst solutions are the main factors affecting reaction rate and hydrogen conversion efficiency. The morphology and structure of the Al(OH)3 product are characterized, with Bayerite and Gibbsite identified as the main phases. The particle sizes of Al(OH)3 products vary depending on the catalyst used, with KOH and tetramethylguanidine resulting in the largest and smallest particle sizes, respectively. The role of catalyst in the aluminum-water reaction is discussed in detail.
