Revealing the influence of Mo addition on interphase precipitation in Ti-bearing low carbon steels

Haokai Dong et al.

Summary: Molybdenum (Mo) is commonly used as an effective microalloying element in interphase precipitation steels to improve mechanical performance. However, the specific role of Mo in interphase precipitation behavior is not fully understood. Research has shown that in Mo-containing alloys, (Ti, Mo)C precipitates form instead of TiC, and the average site fraction of Mo in (Ti, Mo)C is independent of the bulk Mo content. Additionally, the number density of interphase precipitates can be significantly enhanced by a minor addition of Mo, with the Mo fraction in (Ti, Mo)C governing the driving force for precipitation nucleation and the interfacial energy of the interfaces.

Carbide Precipitation during Processing of Two Low-Alloyed Martensitic Tool Steels with 0.11 and 0.17 V/Mo Ratios Studied by Neutron Scattering, Electron Microscopy and Atom Probe

Erik Claesson et al.

Summary: Two industrially processed low-alloyed martensitic tool steel alloys were characterized to study their precipitation behavior. The results show that complex precipitation sequences occur in these materials during processing, and the high number density of Mo-rich secondary carbides is essential for strengthening these tool steels.

Elevated Temperature Tensile Behavior of a Nb-Mo Microalloyed Medium Mn Alloy under Quasistatic Loads

Wenlong Wu et al.

Summary: The elevated temperature tensile behavior of a Nb-Mo microalloyed medium steel was investigated, and it was found that the ultimate tensile strength was significantly reduced with increasing deformation temperature, while the yield strength and total elongation values changed slightly. The best combination of ultimate tensile strength and total elongation was achieved at a deformation temperature of 50 degrees C.

Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, and Fish-Scaling Resistance of a Ti-Nb Microalloyed Hot-Rolled Enamel Steel

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a Ti-Nb microalloyed hot-rolled enamel steel was developed and its microstructure, mechanical properties, and fish-scaling resistance were investigated. The results showed that the presence of a large amount of semi-coherent precipitates contributed to the good fish-scaling resistance of the hot-rolled experimental steel.

Effect of Tungsten Addition on Continuous Cooling Transformation and Precipitation Behavior of a High Titanium Microalloyed Steel

Zhenqiang Wang et al.

Summary: The addition of tungsten has significant effects on the CCT characteristics and phase transformation behavior of high titanium microalloyed steel. It shifts the transformation products to the right side of the CCT diagram, influences the ferrite and bainite phase transformations, and enhances the particle size refinement and number density of precipitates.

Clustering, nano-scale precipitation and strengthening of steels

Zhiping Xiong et al.

Summary: Continuous innovations in design of advanced structural steels play a crucial role in the future progress of manufacturing, automotive and construction industries. Events at nano and atomic scales are essential in controlling steel strength, with strengths of 1-1.5 GPa realized in nano-scale precipitation strengthened steels. Modern characterization techniques allow for insight into mechanisms of solute atoms clustering, nano-precipitate formation, and interactions with dislocations contributing to strength.

Effects of Nb or (Nb plus Mo) alloying on Charpy impact, bending, and delayed fracture properties in 1.9-GPa-grade press hardening steels

Jisung Yoo et al.

Summary: By alloying Nb or (Nb + Mo) into 32MnB5 steel, the bending, impact, and delayed fracture properties of the steel can be significantly improved, with the synergistic effect of (Nb + Mo) alloying showing more pronounced enhancement. Nb alloying promotes the precipitation of nano-sized complex carbides, while Mo mainly affects grain refinement through a solute drag effect. These modifications result in a deviation in crack propagation path, leading to an increased Charpy impact energy.
