Opportunities and Challenges in Cardio-Oncology: A Bibliometric Analysis From 2010 to 2022

Summary: Cardio-oncology has rapidly grown as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline worldwide. This bibliometric review used VOSviewer and Citespace software to analyze the literature landscape of cardio-oncology from 2010 to 2022. The analysis identified a total of 1,194 relevant publications in the Web of Science database, showing an increasing trend. The United States dominated the field, with Italy, England, and Canada emerging as significant contributors. The most productive researchers were Ky. Bonnie, Herrmann. Joerg, and Fradley. Michael G. The journal JACC: CardioOncology published the greatest number of papers, focusing on vascular disease, atrial fibrillation, and other research hotspots like immune checkpoint inhibitor-specific cardiovascular toxicity and prevention of cardio-oncology. More research is needed to fill the gap in basic research.

These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
