Neutrophils Lose the Capacity to Suppress T Cell Proliferation Upon Migration Towards Inflamed Joints in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Sabine Arve-Butler et al.

Summary: This study found that neutrophils in the synovial fluid of children with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) are unable to effectively suppress the proliferation of activated T cells. This may be due to decreased neutrophil reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and alterations in proteins related to cell-cell contact and inflammation. The lack of T cell suppression by neutrophils in the synovial fluid may contribute to local inflammation and autoimmune reactions in the JIA joint.

Differentiation and Regulation of TH Cells: A Balancing Act for Cancer Immunotherapy

Amrita Basu et al.

Summary: This review highlights the importance of T-H cells in cancer immunotherapy, discussing the regulation of different subtypes by various immune cells and the impact of contradictory signals on treatment outcomes. Understanding the complexities of CD4(+) T-H cells and balancing anti- vs pro-tumorigenic subtypes is crucial for designing effective immunotherapies.

Bone Marrow Neutrophils of Multiple Myeloma Patients Exhibit Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cell Activity

Julia Petersson et al.

Summary: The study showed that NDGs from bone marrow of multiple myeloma patients suppress T-cell responses like MDSCs, while blood NDGs from both patients and healthy individuals can inhibit T-cell proliferation and IFN-gamma production. The inhibitory effect of NDGs is dependent on reactive oxygen species production and contact with activated T-cells, indicating the importance of their role in regulating T-cells. Bone marrow NDGs from MM patients exhibit MDSC-like function, which could play a significant role in promoting malignant plasma cell growth in MM patients.
