A comprehensive comparison of zeolite-5A molecular sieves and amine-grafted SBA-15 silica for cyclic adsorption-desorption of carbon dioxide in enclosed environments

Sara Ahsan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of two adsorbent materials, commercially available zeolite-5A and an amine-grafted SBA-15 silica, for air revitalization in enclosed environments. The results show that the amine-grafted silica exhibited faster CO2 adsorption kinetics, lower activation and regeneration temperatures, and shorter activation and regeneration durations compared to zeolite-5A. It also demonstrated stable performance over multiple cycles.

A Theoretical Investigation of Cu+, Ni2+ and Co2+-Exchanged Zeolites for Hydrogen Storage

M. Olus Ozbek et al.

Summary: This study investigates the H-2 adsorption on Cu+, Ni2+ and Co2+-exchanged SSZ-13 (CHA) and SSZ-39 (AEI) using periodic DFT computations. The most stable Cu+ position was found to be the 6-membered-ring window for both zeolites. Similarly, for the investigated Ni2+ and Co2+ loadings on 6-membered-ring windows, the third nearest neighbor Al positions, i. e., Al-O-Si-O-Si-O-Al coordination, was found to be the most stable position. The H-2 adsorption energies on the Ni2+ and Co2+-exchanged zeolites were found to be between -15 and -44 kJ/mol. Higher energy values were observed on the AEI framework, especially when two Al atoms have the Al-O-Si-O-Al configuration. Lesser interaction of the d-orbitals in the case of the Co2+ and Ni2+ cations resulted in heat of H-2 adsorption close to optimum values required for H-2 storage on porous materials.

Thermoporometry of porous carbon: The effect of the carbon surface chemistry on the thickness of non-freezable pore water layer (delta layer)

Gabriela Zelenkova et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the effect of oxygen content in carbons on the amount of non-freezable pore water, showing that the quantity of non-freezable water increases with increasing oxygen content. By taking into account the surface chemistry of carbon materials, it was found that the thickness of the delta layer significantly increases with increasing amount of oxygen. The proposed approaches aim to make thermoporometry a widely-used method by estimating the width of the delta layer for specific materials.

Tuning the pore structure and surface chemistry of porous graphene for CO2 capture and H2 storage

Kaisheng Xia et al.

Summary: Porous graphene materials (PGMs) with different morphologies and pore structures can be prepared through CO2 and KOH activation of thermal exfoliated graphene oxide, exhibiting rich surface chemistry properties. The specific surface areas and pore volumes of PGMs can be easily tuned by adjusting the activation conditions, affecting their gas adsorption performance significantly. Experiment results demonstrate that the gas adsorption of PGMs is influenced by both their pore structure and surface chemistry, showing potential applications in gas storage and separation technologies.
