Identification and characterization of circular RNAs in Longissimus dorsi muscle tissue from two goat breeds using RNA-Seq

Jiyuan Shen et al.

Summary: This study compared the muscle fiber size and circRNA expression profiles in Liaoning cashmere (LC) goats and Ziwuling black (ZB) goats, and found that circRNAs may play important roles in skeletal mass, meat production performance, and meat quality traits in goats. These results contribute to a better understanding of the functions of circRNAs in skeletal muscle development of goats.

CircRNA-0100 positively regulates the differentiation of cashmere goat SHF-SCs into hair follicle lineage via sequestering miR-153-3p to heighten the KLF5 expression

Junyin Zhao et al.

Summary: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are stable RNA molecules that can function as miRNA sponges to regulate gene expression. In this study, we found that circRNA-0100 was highly expressed in the hair follicle bulge of cashmere goats and promoted the differentiation of SHF stem cells into hair lineage. Our results demonstrated that circRNA-0100 sequesters miR-153-3p to enhance KLF5 expression, thereby promoting the differentiation of SHF stem cells into hair lineage in cashmere goats. This study provides novel scientific evidence for understanding the molecular regulatory mechanisms involved in the differentiation of SHF stem cells into hair lineage in cashmere goats.

Identification and characterization of circular RNAs in mammary gland tissue from sheep at peak lactation and during the non lactating period

Jiqing Wang et al.

Summary: Circular RNAs are a widespread class of noncoding RNA in eukaryote tissues, with some having clear biological functions. A study in sheep showed the expression profiles of circular RNAs in mammary gland tissue at peak lactation and nonlactating stages, confirming the expression and identity of multiple circular RNAs. In peak lactation, 40 up-regulated and 1 downregulated circular RNAs were identified, with parental genes related to various molecular functions. Furthermore, five differentially expressed circular RNAs were analyzed to predict their target microRNAs, revealing some microRNAs associated with mammary gland development.

Screening of cashmere fineness-related genes and their ceRNA network construction in cashmere goats

Taiyu Hui et al.

Summary: Competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) is a type of transcript that can be mutually regulated by shared miRNAs. This study identified miRNAs in Liaoning Cashmere Goat (LCG) skin and analyzed the expression of mRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs in both LCG and Inner Mongolia cashmere goat (MCG) skin. Through further analysis and confirmation, a ceRNA regulatory network for controlling cashmere fineness was established.

Expression Profiling and Functional Analysis of Circular RNAs in Inner Mongolian Cashmere Goat Hair Follicles

Fangzheng Shang et al.

Summary: This study established the expression profiling of circRNA in the fetal skin hair follicles of cashmere goats, revealing that the host gene of circRNA may be involved in the development of cashmere goat hair follicles. The regulatory network of circRNA-miRNA-mRNA was constructed and preliminarily verified using DE circRNAs.
