Genome-wide analysis of the CAD gene family reveals two bona fide CAD genes in oil palm

Chong Yu Lok Yusuf et al.

Summary: Cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) is a key enzyme involved in lignin biosynthesis in plants. This study identified and analyzed seven CAD genes in oil palm, with a focus on two genes, EgCAD1 and EgCAD2. The results showed that EgCAD1 and EgCAD2 are involved in lignin biosynthesis during normal development and response to stress in oil palm, and their 5' flanking regions contain important regulatory elements.

Characterization of the ABC Transporter G Subfamily in Pomegranate and Function Analysis of PgrABCG14

Qing Yu et al.

Summary: The ATP-binding cassette subfamily G (ABCG) proteins play important roles in plant growth and development, particularly in seed hardness development. In this study, the PgrABCG14 protein showed a similar evolutionary trend to lignin biosynthesis and ectopic expression of PgrABCG14 promoted plant growth and lignin accumulation in Arabidopsis.

Systematic functional characterization of cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase family members revealed their functional divergence in lignin biosynthesis and stress responses in mulberry

Nan Chao et al.

Summary: In this study, five MaCADs were cloned and characterized in Morus alba. The results showed that MaCAD3/4 were bona fide CADs involved in lignin biosynthesis. Down-regulation of MaCAD3/4 resulted in a significant decrease in lignin content in both stems and leaves. MaCADs exhibited different expression patterns in response to various stresses, indicating their possible diverse roles. These findings provide an important foundation for the genetic modification of the monolignol pathway in mulberry.

Genome-wide analysis of the lignin toolbox for morus and the roles of lignin related genes in response to zinc stress

Nan Chao et al.

Summary: Through genome analysis of mulberry, core genes in the lignin biosynthesis pathway were identified, providing convenience for researchers to explore the biosynthesis of lignin in mulberry. We identified 31 bona fide lignin biosynthetic genes in Morus notabilis and proposed a lignin toolbox consisting of 19 genes in mulberry for further studies and modifications. Changes in the expression of lignin biosynthetic genes in response to stress caused by excess zinc in mulberry were also observed, suggesting important responses to zinc stress in mulberry.

Kaijie Qi et al.

Summary: This study identified and analyzed CAD genes in Rosaceae plants, finding that they were clustered into six subgroups with events like dispersed and whole-genome/segmental duplications during evolution. The highest number of collinear gene pairs was found in pear, with five pairs, and these PbrCAD gene pairs underwent purifying selection.
