Tumor necrosis factor-alpha, prostaglandin-E2 and interleukin-1β targeted anti-arthritic potential of fluvoxamine: drug repurposing

Haseeb Ahsan et al.

Summary: The present study evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects of fluvoxamine in acute and chronic inflammatory rat models. The results indicated that fluvoxamine exhibited significant protective effects and anti-arthritic behavior. In addition, molecular docking studies confirmed the compound's anti-inflammatory potential, and pharmacokinetic studies revealed favorable properties with no specific hepatic toxicity. Fluvoxamine also showed no skin sensitization in vitro tests.

Ursolic acid abrogates depressive-like behavior and hippocampal pro-apoptotic imbalance induced by chronic unpredictable stress

Andre R. S. Colla et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ursolic acid has antidepressant-like effects in mice exposed to chronic unpredictable stress (CUS), and this effect may be associated with the modulation of Bcl-2/Bax expression in the hippocampus. Fluoxetine showed similar antidepressant effects as ursolic acid, preventing CUS-induced behavioral changes. However, the mechanisms by which ursolic acid exerts its antidepressant effects may differ from traditional antidepressants like fluoxetine.
