Multifunctional interfaces for multiple uses: Tin(II)-hydroxyapatite for reductive adsorption of Cr(VI) and its upcycling into catalyst for air protection reactions

Sebastiano Campisi et al.

Summary: Evidence collected by our group shows that tin(II)-functionalized hydroxyapatites (Sn/HAP) are a newly discovered class of ecofriendly reductive adsorbents for Cr(VI) removal from wastewaters. Upgraded Sn/HAP materials demonstrated a maximum removal capacity of approximately 20 mgCr/g, double the previously reported value, due to improved Sn-dispersion. The kinetics and thermodynamics of the reductive adsorption process were studied, along with the influence of pH, dosage, and nature of Cr(VI) precursors. Additionally, the used samples were transformed into catalysts for gas-phase catalytic processes, showing promising activity in methane oxidation.

Impact of physical and chemical parameters on square wave anodic stripping voltammetry for trace Pb2+ detection in water

Connor E. Rahm et al.

Summary: Exposure to lead in drinking water is a global problem. The Square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) technique is commonly used for detecting trace Pb2+ ions. This study investigated the impact of water quality parameters on the SWASV technique and found that conductivity and temperature were positively correlated with the peak height, while pH, alkalinity, free chlorine, and copper were inversely correlated.

Combination of interfacial reduction of hexavalent chromium and trivalent chromium immobilization on tin-functionalized hydroxyapatite materials

Sebastiano Campisi et al.

Summary: An ecofriendly hydroxyapatite material functionalized with tin (Sn/HAP) was presented for efficient interfacial reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Results showed that Sn/HAP samples prepared using colloidal acid solutions exhibited better performances in reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III) due to higher tin dispersion on the HAP surface. Additionally, tin was tightly retained on the HAP surface under reaction conditions, confirming the occurrence of Cr(VI) reduction at the solid-liquid interphase.

Tuning the sorption ability of hydroxyapatite/carbon composites for the simultaneous remediation of wastewaters containing organic-inorganic pollutants

Michele Ferri et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of eco-friendly hydroxyapatite/carbon composites as sorbents for organic-inorganic pollution remediation in wastewaters. The composites showed effective sorption properties for both organic and inorganic pollutants, with kinetic tests revealing almost complete removal of high concentrations of pollutants in a short timeframe. Leaching tests confirmed permanent retention of hazardous species on the composites.

Determination of Trace Levels of Nickel(II) by Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry Using a Disposable and Low-Cost Carbon Screen-Printed Electrode

Victor Padilla et al.

Summary: A commercial and disposable screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) was proposed for fast, simple, and low-cost determination of Ni(II) at very low concentration levels by DPAdSV. The method achieved well-defined stripping peaks, linear dependence of peak area on Ni(II) concentration, and excellent reproducibility. The SPCE showed great potential for application in wastewater analysis, demonstrating remarkable trueness and very good reproducibility.

Seven steps to reliable cyclic voltammetry measurements for the determination of double layer capacitance

Dulce M. Morales et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a seven-step method to reliably determine double layer capacitance using scan rate-dependent cyclic voltammetry, and applies it to two different systems for validation. Results show that neglecting any step leads to significant deviations in the results, and suggests a more suitable regression model for determining double layer capacitance.
