Influence of the Metal Incorporation into Hydroxyapatites on the Deactivation Behavior of the Solids in the Esterification of Glycerol

Gabriela Mota et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of metal incorporation into hydroxyapatites on the deactivation behavior of the solids in the esterification of glycerol reaction. The results showed that hydroxyapatites with Cu ions exhibited superior catalytic performance and reusability compared to those with Co and Ni ions. The stability of Cu ions in the hydroxyapatite lattice and the presence of isolated Cu2+ sites played important roles in enhancing glycerol conversion.

A review on catalytic role of heterogeneous acidic catalysts during glycerol acetylation to yield acetins

Km Abida et al.

Summary: Glycerol is a versatile compound used in various industries like food, paint, and pharmaceutical. By utilizing the excess glycerol produced by the biodiesel industry, it can be used to manufacture value-added products such as acetins. Acetins have diverse applications in different fields such as cosmetics, fuel additives, pharmaceuticals, leather, and food processing. However, the use of homogeneous acid catalysts in producing acetins has limitations due to corrosiveness, non-reusability, and difficulty in separation. To address these issues, researchers have been studying heterogeneous acidic catalysts that can be easily separated and reused. However, there are still challenges such as low conversion levels and catalyst deactivation that need to be overcome.

Current Trends in Acetins Production: Green versus Non-Green Synthesis

Bakht Zada et al.

Summary: To utilize excess glycerol from the biodiesel industry, researchers are developing innovative methods to transform it into valuable chemicals. One strategy is to convert glycerol into acetins, which have wide applications in various industries. Acetins can be synthesized through chemical or biological methods. Although the chemical methods are efficient and productive, they are non-green, while biological processes are environmentally friendly but less productive and require further effort for commercialization.

Low-temperature methanol synthesis via (CO2 + CO) combined hydrogenation using Cu-ZnO/Al2O3 hybrid nanoparticle cluster

Thanh Truc Nguyen Hoang et al.

Summary: The conversion of CO2 into valuable fuel or chemical feedstock through hydrogenation to methanol is important for sustainable technological development. This study proposes a combined (CO2 + CO) hydrogenation process for methanol production and develops Cu-based hybrid catalysts to enhance catalytic performance. The results demonstrate that incorporating CO into the CO2 hydrogenation process can significantly increase methanol yield at relatively low temperature and moderate pressure.

Cooperative bimetallic catalyst for thio-etherification reaction prepared by crystal-facet engineering of γ-Al2O3 support

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a novel approach of tuning crystal facet engineering on γ-Al2O3 to expose new facets for improved catalytic performance. By selectively depositing and sulfiding metal oxides NiOx and MoOx on the respective facets, a NiS2-MoS2/Al2O3 catalyst is formed with substantially enhanced activity for thio-etherification reaction. The cooperative catalysis from the newly exposed facets shows superior activity over conventional catalysts, highlighting the potential for rational design of high performance catalysts.

Ni-In Synergy in CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol

Jiadong Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the promotion of Ni on In2O3 and optimization of NiO-In2O3 catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation. Ni facilitates the synthesis of CH3OH by reducing the dissociation barrier of H2, leading to reduced activation energy for CO2 hydrogenation. The interaction between Ni cations and In2O3 at low NiO loading enhances the surface density of oxygen vacancy, promoting the hydrogenation of adsorbed CO2 on O-v.

Synthesis of fuel bioadditive by esterification of glycerol with acetic acid over hydrophobic polymer-based solid acid

Ronglin Mou et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of polydivinylbenzene-based solid acids (PDS) with different structural performances were prepared and utilized as catalysts for the acetylation of glycerol with acetic acid to produce DAG and TAG. PDS-THF prepared in tetrahydrofuran solvent exhibited the highest catalytic activity, converting glycerol almost completely into glyceryl acetates with a combined selectivity of 88.6% under optimal conditions. The superior catalytic performance of PDS-THF was attributed to the synergism of abundant acidic sites, suitable acidic site density, and super hydrophobicity.
