Blue light induces ROS mediated apoptosis and degradation of AML1-ETO oncoprotein in Kasumi-1 cells

Jianjian Zhuang et al.

Summary: Blue light irradiation can specifically inhibit proliferation and promote apoptosis of Kasumi-1 cells by regulating the ratio of Bcl-2(Bcl-xL)/Bax and decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential, accompanied by increased cleavage of caspase-3 and poly-ADP-ribose polymerase. This study provides insight into the development of a low toxicity and high efficiency strategy for clinical treatment of Kasumi-1 cells using blue light irradiation.

Light-emitting diode irradiation induces AKT/mTOR-mediated apoptosis in human pancreatic cancer cells and xenograft mouse model

Young Mi Kim et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that blue LED irradiation suppressed pancreatic cancer cell and tumor growth by regulating the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, while also increasing the expression of apoptosis-related proteins. These findings suggest that blue LEDs could be utilized as a nonpharmacological treatment for pancreatic cancer.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cancer pathogenesis and therapy: An update on the role of ROS in anticancer action of benzophenanthridine alkaloids

Abdul Q. Khan et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a crucial role in the growth, progression, and stemness of cancer cells, maintaining a delicate balance with antioxidants to promote cancer pathogenesis. Natural products are vital in attenuating the adverse effects of cancer therapies, with most available drugs derived from natural resources. Benzophenanthridine alkaloids, such as sanguinarine, exhibit pharmacological properties and are being studied for the treatment of various diseases, including cancer, by inducing ROS-mediated anticancer actions.
