Hypermethylation of MIR129-2 Regulates SOX4 Transcription and Associates with Metastasis in Patients with Colorectal Cancer

Alireza Rezayi Soufiani et al.

Summary: In colorectal cancer patients, hypermethylation of the MIR192-2 promoter is associated with downregulation of miR-192-2 and upregulation of SOX4 mRNA expression in tumoral tissues compared to normal marginal tissues. The methylation level of the MIR192-2 promoter is significantly correlated with the expression levels of miR-192-2 and SOX4 in tumoral tissues, suggesting a potential role in modulating metastasis in CRC.

miR-490: A potential biomarker and therapeutic target in cancer and other diseases

Omkar Suhas Vinchure et al.

Summary: miR-490, a well-studied miRNA, is associated with the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly showing potential in cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Multiple epigenetic and posttranscriptional mechanisms tightly regulate the levels of miR-490, with its targets involving cancer-related genes that impact various cancer hallmarks.

Relationship of the Levels of microRNA Gene Methylation with the Level of Their Expression and Pathomorphological Characteristics of Breast Cancer

E. A. Filippova et al.

Summary: The study found a significant increase in the methylation levels of four microRNA genes and a decrease in one gene in breast cancer. The expression levels of four microRNAs decreased significantly, while one increased significantly. There was a significant correlation between methylation and expression levels. Two significant markers of tumor progression were identified when considering the tumor characteristics.

Aberrant Methylation of 21 MicroRNA Genes in Breast Cancer: Sets of Genes Associated with Progression and a System of Markers for Predicting Metastasis

V. Loginov et al.

Summary: A systemic analysis was conducted to study the relationship between methylation levels of 21 microRNA genes and breast cancer progression, leading to the identification of significant associations for 11 genes with late clinical stages. A prediction marker system for metastasis was proposed based on 6 highly significant genes.ROC analysis showed that this system has an 87% sensitivity and 77% specificity, indicating potential clinical application in personalized treatment of breast cancer patients.

Identification of differentially methylated genes as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of breast cancer

Xiao-hong Mao et al.

Summary: Aberrant DNA methylation is significantly associated with breast cancer. 23 significant differentially methylated sites, corresponding to 9 different genes, were identified in breast cancer datasets. High expression of selected methylation genes was strongly predictive for breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Promoter methylation of DNA homologous recombination genes is predictive of the responsiveness to PARP inhibitor treatment in testicular germ cell tumors

Joao Lobo et al.

Summary: The study identified HR gene promoter methylation as a predictor of therapeutic response to PARPis in TGCT patients. Nonseminomas exhibited higher methylation levels for target genes, with a correlation to disease characteristics. A moderate to strong anti-correlation was found between gene expression and promoter methylation levels, supporting the importance of HR genes methylation as a predictive factor for PARPis response in TGCT patients.
