Heterostructural tailoring of blue ZnSeTe quantum dots toward high-color purity and high-efficiency electroluminescence

Sun-Hyoung Lee et al.

Summary: Ternary ZnSeTe quantum dots with ZnSe inner and ZnS outer shell have been synthesized to achieve high-quality blue emission. Modulating the thickness of the ZnSe inner shell in the ZnSeTe/ZnSe/ZnS heterostructure affects the Photoluminescence (PL) characteristics. The QLEDs produced using these QDs exhibit high electroluminescence performance with excellent PL Quantum Yield (QY) and deep blue emissivity.

Surface state-induced barrierless carrier injection in quantum dot electroluminescent devices

Hyeonjun Lee et al.

Summary: The efficiency of quantum dot light-emitting diodes has made remarkable progress in the past decade within the framework of organic-inorganic hybrid device structure. Despite the improvement, a conundrum remains unexplored: even with seemingly unfavorable energy landscape, state-of-the-art devices exhibit barrierless hole injection. The cause of this barrierless injection is found to stem from Fermi level alignment derived by surface states, providing macroscopic electrostatic potential gain for promoting hole injection to quantum dots.

Colloidal quantum dot lasers

Young-Shin Park et al.

Summary: Semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as colloidal quantum dots, offer promising properties for optical-gain media that can be manipulated via colloidal techniques. Recent advances in understanding and controlling light amplification processes have led to breakthroughs in optically pumped continuous-wave lasing and development of novel dual-function electroluminescent devices that also function as optically pumped lasers. This review evaluates the state of colloidal quantum dot lasing and discusses challenges and opportunities in the field.

Polarized Electroluminescence Emission in High-Performance Quantum Rod Light-Emitting Diodes via the Langmuir-Blodgett Technique

Seunghyun Rhee et al.

Summary: This study reports polarized electroluminescence emission in high-performance QR-LEDs achieved by employing the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, which successfully aligns QRs and produces polarized light emission. The advantageous features of the LB technique, such as nondestructiveness, precise thickness control, and the nonnecessity of an additional matrix material, enable the fabrication of QR-LEDs in the same procedure as the standard spin coating-based scheme. The devices fabricated via the LB technique exhibit excellent performance, with low turn-on voltage, high peak luminance, and peak external quantum efficiency, indicating new opportunities for QRs in display technologies.

Pushing the Band Gap Envelope of Quasi-Type II Heterostructured Nanocrystals to Blue: ZnSe/ZnSe1-XTeX/ZnSe Spherical Quantum Wells

Jun Hyuk Chang et al.

Summary: Quasi-type II heterostructured nanocrystals have shown great potential for controlling charge carriers, but material choices have limited their emission wavelength range. By engineering the layers and wave functions, ZnSe/ZnSe1-XTeX/ZnSe/ZnS NCs exhibit near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield across a broad range of emission wavelengths (450nm to 600nm). Dichromatic white NC-based light-emitting diodes using a mixed layer of blue- and yellow-emitting ZnSe/ZnSe1-XTeX/ZnSe/ZnS SQW NCs have been successfully demonstrated.
