Nanodiamond-Quantum Sensors Reveal Temperature Variation Associated to Hippocampal Neurons Firing

Giulia Petrini et al.

Summary: Temperature is a crucial parameter in regulating intracellular processes. Researchers have developed a nanoscale thermometer based on optically detected magnetic resonance in nanodiamonds to detect temperature variations associated with neuronal firing. This breakthrough provides a tool for studying localized temperature gradients under physiological and pathological conditions.

Spectral Emission Dependence of Tin-Vacancy Centers in Diamond from Thermal Processing and Chemical Functionalization

Emilio Corte et al.

Summary: A systematic investigation of the spectral emission properties of individual optical defects in diamond is reported, and three spectral lines at different wavelengths are attributed to the SnV center. The relative occurrence of these lines can be modified by surface treatment. The relevant emission properties of each class of emitters are reported.

Quantum computer based on color centers in diamond

Sebastien Pezzagna et al.

Summary: Artificial atoms like NV centers in diamond have enabled the realization of fully functional qubits in a solid at room temperature. Although quantum sensing has been established and advancements are being made, the development of a quantum computer remains challenging due to technical reasons and limitations of available materials. Ideas are being proposed to overcome these limitations, and the field is constantly progressing with promising concepts for development.

Temperature dependence of optical centers in Ib diamond characterized by photoluminescence spectra

Bing Dong et al.

Summary: The optical properties of defects in Ib diamond prepared by CVD and HPHT methods were studied using photoluminescence in a temperature range from 77 to 297 K. The temperature dependence of color centers in diamond and the zero-phonon line shift, intensity, and FWHM were analyzed. The study showed significant temperature dependence for the ZPL, with potential for temperature sensing, and a cubic function was found to well describe the broadening of ZPLs.

Low-temperature photoluminescence study of SnV centers in HPHT diamond

A. A. Razgulov et al.

Summary: This study reports on the temperature shift and broadening of the zero phonon line (ZPL) of SnV center in HPHT microcrystalline diamond in the temperature range of 80-300 K. By studying the pressure effect on the ZPL, contributions of lattice thermal expansion and electron-phonon coupling were separated. A strong nonlinearity observed in the electron-phonon part of the ZPL temperature shift appeared to be related to the effect of the strong softening of elastic springs, showing good agreement with a polynomial law increment.

Lattice Location Studies of the Amphoteric Nature of Implanted Mg in GaN

Ulrich Wahl et al.

Summary: Efficient electrical activation remains a challenge in ion implantation doping of GaN. The amphoteric nature of Mg in GaN, involving both substitutional Ga and interstitial sites, is elucidated through investigations. Implantation at high temperatures causes interstitial Mg to approach the levels found in undoped GaN.
