Techno-Economic Assessment of Energy Retrofitting Educational Buildings: A Case Study in Saudi Arabia

Mohammad B. Hamida et al.

Summary: The buildings and construction sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accounts for the majority of energy consumption. This study aims to assess Energy Conservation Measures in a government-built educational building in Dammam using a BIM-based approach. Results show that implementing four ECMs can reduce annual energy consumption by 22.7% with a payback period of 2.7 years, making it a viable option for energy retrofitting educational buildings in the country.

A critical review of energy retrofitting trends in residential buildings with particular focus on the GCC countries

Wahhaj Ahmed et al.

Summary: The building sector plays a significant role in climate change, with the residential sector in GCC countries being particularly critical. There is a need for these countries to invest in improving the energy performance of existing unsustainable residential buildings. Existing literature on energy retrofitting in the GCC countries lacks top-down and bottom-up physical approaches, as well as the application of modern design tools like BIM. Additionally, no studies present measured and verified case studies of implemented energy retrofitting projects, highlighting a gap in existing research.

Review of developments in whole-building statistical energy consumption models for commercial buildings

Hongxiang Fu et al.

Summary: Building energy consumption is a significant field of study, with statistical methods being popular due to their simplicity and accuracy in predicting energy consumption. However, there is still limited research on the applications of statistical methods in certain areas such as modeling electric demand and power factor. Further exploration and application of these methods are needed to advance research in building energy analysis.
