Predicting potential suitable habitat for Ensete glaucum (Roxb.) Cheesman using MaxEnt modelling

M. R. Ranjith Layola et al.

Summary: Ecological niche models were used to predict the potential suitable habitat for Ensete glaucum, and areas in Northeast India, Yunnan region of China, Southeast Asia, and Papua New Guinea were found to have high suitability, while most countries in Southeast Asia were less suitable. The suitability of E. glaucum habitat was mainly influenced by precipitation, temperature, and topography.

Predicting Potential Habitat of a Plant Species with Small Populations under Climate Change: Ostrya rehderiana

Lei Feng et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of climate change on the suitable habitat of Ostrya rehderiana and found that climate and soil factors play important roles in its suitable distribution, with human footprint having less influence. In the 2050s, the niche range of this species is projected to expand and shift to the north.

The current and future potential geographical distribution of Nepeta crispa Willd., an endemic, rare and threatened aromatic plant of Iran: Implications for ecological conservation and restoration

Shirin Mahmoodi et al.

Summary: In this study, the current and future potential geographical distributions of Nepeta crispa Willd. were modeled using the maximum entropy model, and the most relevant environmental factors influencing its distribution were identified. The results showed that elevation, annual mean temperature, geology, and precipitation of the driest quarter were the most important variables determining the habitat of N. crispa. The modeling approach also demonstrated that climate change would expand the habitat range of N. crispa in the Alvand mountain areas in Iran towards higher elevation. Conservation measures should therefore focus on the elevation range between 2000 and 3500 meters above sea level.

Prediction of Potentially Suitable Distribution Areas for Prunus tomentosa in China Based on an Optimized MaxEnt Model

Bo Fang et al.

Summary: Prunus tomentosa is widely distributed in China, but many wild plants are nearing extinction. Predicting its potential distribution under climate change is crucial for its conservation. This study found that the suitable areas for P. tomentosa will shift northward and the growing area will increase.

Plant origin and trade-off between generative and vegetative reproduction determine germination behaviour of a dominant grass species along climatic gradients

Andrea Vesela et al.

Summary: This study explores the effects of climate change on plant germination and the influences of plant origin, germination climate, and seed mass on germination. The findings suggest that higher seed mass and warm germination temperature contribute to higher and faster germination. However, the effects of temperature and moisture interact, leading to lower germination and higher proportion of dormant seeds in warm, dry conditions. The total germination is negatively correlated with plant performance variables contributing to vegetative reproduction. The study confirms a trade-off between generative and vegetative reproduction.

Incorporating satellite remote sensing for improving potential habitat simulation of Prosopis cineraria (L.) Druce in United Arab Emirates

Remya Kottarathu Kalarikkal et al.

Summary: This study used MaxEnt to predict the potential habitat suitability of the national tree of the UAE, Prosopis cineraria (Ghaf), and explored the use of satellite remote sensing data in the prediction. The results showed that precipitation, NDVI, and elevation significantly contributed to the potential habitat distribution of Ghaf trees. The findings of this study can be useful for environmental managers in implementing reforestation projects in the UAE and other similar hyper arid regions in the Middle East.

Impact of Past and Future Climate Change on the Potential Distribution of an Endangered Montane Shrub Lonicera oblata and Its Conservation Implications

Yuan-Mi Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of the critically endangered montane shrub Lonicera oblata in response to climate change were modeled under different historical periods. The results showed that suitable habitats for L. oblata are currently scarce in North China. Historical modeling revealed fluctuations in distribution over past periods, with future modeling indicating dramatic contraction of suitable habitats and fragmented population distribution.

Germination responses to water potential and temperature variation among provenances of Pinus yunnanensis

Chengjie Gao et al.

Summary: Provenance selection is crucial for the success of afforestation programs, as different provenances of Pinus yunnanensis seeds exhibit varied responses to water potential and temperature, affecting germination percentage and mean germination time. The study highlights the importance of evaluating a wide range of provenances to understand how they adapt to abiotic stresses and improve reforestation success.

Predicting the potential distribution of a critically endangered medicinal plant Lilium polyphyllum in Indian Western Himalayan Region

Anurag Dhyani et al.

Summary: Climate change poses a serious threat to endangered plant species, with overexploitation leading to a decrease in natural habitats of Lilium polyphyllum. Future climate change scenarios predict a reduction in potential habitats for this species in the Western Himalayan region and a shift towards the southeast.
