A centrifuge study on the effect of the water cover on the ground motion of saturated marine sediments

Jing-Yan Lan et al.

Summary: The study utilized a centrifuge experiment to simulate the response of ground motion of saturated marine sediments in the sea area, exploring the effect of the overlying water cover. Results showed significant differences between the model with overlying water and the model without overlying water, especially under high acceleration base inputs.

Data-driven rapid damage evaluation for life-cycle seismic assessment of regional reinforced concrete bridges

Ji-Gang Xu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an approach for regional seismic performance assessment of reinforced concrete bridges using machine-learning techniques. The results show that the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) model has the best performance, accurately predicting the damage states of the bridges.

Modeling the Mechanical Behavior of Methane Hydrate-Bearing Soil Considering the Influences of Temperature and Pore Pressure

Rongtao Yan et al.

Summary: A new elastoplastic constitutive model was developed to characterize the mechanical behavior of methane hydrate-bearing soil (MHBS) under different temperatures and pore pressures. The model successfully captured the influences of temperature and pore pressure on the stiffness, strength, and dilatancy of MHBS through the introduction of a phase state parameter. The proposed model was validated by comparing the predicted results with experimental data, and it was shown to effectively predict the mechanical behavior of MHBS under heating or depressurization procedures.

Influence of Temperature and Pore Pressure on Geomechanical Behavior of Methane Hydrate-Bearing Sand

Rongtao Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of temperature and pore pressure on the mechanical behavior of methane hydrate-bearing sediment (MHBS) through a series of experiments. The results show that temperature and pore pressure have a significant impact on stress-strain curve, stiffness, strength, and cohesion of MHBS.

Probabilistic multi-hazard fragility analysis of RC bridges under earthquake-tsunami sequential events

Ji-Gang Xu et al.

Summary: The study conducted a probabilistic fragility analysis and found that prior earthquakes have a more pronounced effect on the stiffness of bridges, while having a minor impact on tsunami fragility. Overall, the bridge system becomes more vulnerable when considering the multi-hazard of earthquake-tsunami.

Study on the influence of the seafloor soft soil layer on seismic ground motion

Jingyan Lan et al.

Summary: In this paper, the impacts of overlying seawater and soft soil on seafloor ground motion are studied by establishing four sets of free-field models. The results show that surface soft soil and seabed surface movements can be amplified when an SV wave is input, while overlying seawater can reduce ground motion significantly. However, the effects of overlying seawater and soft soil can be neglected when a P wave is used, and the peak acceleration decreases first and then increases from the bottom to the surface.
