The influence mechanism and spatial effect of carbon emission intensity in the agricultural sustainable supply: evidence from china's grain production

Zhi Li et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the impact mechanism and spatial spillover effects of carbon emission intensity (CEI) in grain production based on evidence from China's major grain-producing provinces from 2002 to 2018. The results suggest that technology is the main factor reducing CEI, and factors such as technical efficiency, urbanization, industrial structure, agricultural agglomeration, and agricultural trade openness can be transmitted to neighboring areas through spatial spillover mechanisms.

Effects of a carbon tax in the United States on agricultural markets and carbon emissions from land-use change

Jerome Dumortier et al.

Summary: A study assessed the economic and environmental impacts of a carbon tax on agriculture in the U.S., finding that as the carbon tax increases, production costs for corn and soybeans rise, exports decrease, and there is a slight increase in global GHG emissions. However, this increase is small compared to the overall reduction in emissions from the carbon tax. Policy makers need to be aware of potential leakage in land-use change and take measures to prevent expansion into carbon-rich native vegetation.
