Particle characteristics of calcined clays and limestone and their impact on early hydration and sulfate demand of blended cement

Matthias Maier et al.

Summary: In this study, the behavior of blended Portland limestone cement during the early hydration was monitored, and the influence of different calcined clays on mineral composition and particle properties was investigated. The results showed that the investigated SCMs influence the clinker reaction through different mechanisms and to varying extents, highlighting the importance of proper sulfation in blended cements.

Insights into the ?accelerating effect? of sucrose on cement pastes

Marcelo Tramontin Souza et al.

Summary: This research investigates the effect of sucrose on the structure and rheological behavior of cement pastes. The results demonstrate that low concentrations of sucrose act as efficient setting retarders, delaying the setting time and reducing the hydration rate of the cement paste, while high concentrations of sucrose further delay the hydration process and intensify the formation of ettringite.

Role of temperature in 3D printed geopolymers: Evaluating rheology and buildability

Marcelo Tramontin Souza et al.

Summary: One of the most challenging tasks in making 3D printing technology feasible for large-scale buildings is the mix design of binders with fluidity for pumping and at the same time consistency for printing. High-fluid mixtures are better for pumping but do not support the overlap of layers, which can be overcome by manipulating temperature. This work demonstrates how high-fluid mixtures can be quickly turned into buildable ones through a systematic heating process for 3D printed geopolymers, providing valuable insight for setting rheology and buildability.
