Reference crop evapotranspiration for data-sparse regions using reanalysis products

Summary: This study aims to assess the performance of FAO56 Penman-Monteith (PM-ETo) fed by ERA5, MERRA2, and GLDAS2 outputs in estimating daily and monthly ETo under data limitation. The results reveal that ERA5 provides more realistic estimations of ETo compared to MERRA2 and GLDAS2, and performs better in producing other climatic variables as well. Therefore, ERA5 is more suitable for estimating ETo in areas with limited data availability.

Assessment of Daily of Reference Evapotranspiration Using CLDAS Product in Different Climate Regions of China

Performance evaluation of NCEP/NCAR reanalysis blended with observation-based datasets for estimating reference evapotranspiration across Iran

Summary: This study focused on using reanalysis data blended with gridded data sets to calculate monthly PM-ETo at 43 synoptic stations in Iran. Results showed good matches for solar radiation, maximum temperature, and minimum temperature, but large errors for wind speed and relative humidity in comparison to observations. The blended reanalysis data were found to be suitable for estimating ETo in inland areas of Iran despite some degree of overestimation at most stations.

Multiscale Assessments of Three Reanalysis Temperature Data Systems over China

Three reanalysis products, CLDAS, GLDAS, and ERA5-Land, were evaluated for their accuracy using hourly observations from 2265 weather stations in China. The study found that CLDAS has the highest accuracy, followed by ERA5-Land and GLDAS. However, accuracy decreases with increasing elevation, indicating the need for caution when using these data in mountainous regions.

Prediction of Potential and Actual Evapotranspiration Fluxes Using Six Meteorological Data-Based Approaches for a Range of Climate and Land Cover Types
