Cause-specific life years lost in individuals with treatment-resistant depression: A Danish nationwide register-based cohort study

Comparative efficacy and acceptability of neuromodulation procedures in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Hao Li et al.

Summary: Among the neuromodulation therapies studied in this network meta-analysis, bilateral repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (BL-rTMS) and bilateral theta burst stimulation (TBS) appeared to be the most effective in treating patients with treatment-resistant depression. These therapies showed higher response rates compared to other methods such as deep brain stimulation and bitemporal ECT.

Treatment patterns in patients with treatment-resistant depression in Danish patients with major depressive disorder

Frederikke Hordam Gronemann et al.

Summary: This study found that the majority of MDD patients in Denmark initially received treatment with antidepressants or ECT, and often changed medications during the course of treatment. TRD patients were more likely to use SNRIs, and a significant proportion initiated new treatments in the following year.

Real-world evidence from a European cohort study of patients with treatment resistant depression: Treatment patterns and clinical outcomes

Summary: The study found that remission rates for patients with treatment resistant depression were low, and the heterogeneity of treatments highlighted a lack of consensus. Despite the low response rates, many patients continued their treatments for substantial periods of time.

Genetic and clinical characteristics of treatment-resistant depression using primary care records in two UK cohorts

Chiara Fabbri et al.

Summary: Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a major contributor to the disability caused by major depressive disorder (MDD). This study demonstrated that MDD and TRD can be reliably defined using primary care records and provides the first large scale population assessment of the genetic, clinical and demographic characteristics of TRD.

Excess deaths in treatment-resistant depression

Philip Brenner et al.

Summary: Patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) have significantly higher excess deaths in most age and comorbidity categories compared to other depressed patients, with 7-16 excess deaths per 1000 patients over 5 years. The majority of excess deaths were due to external causes.
