Determination of pore size distribution in tight gas sandstones based on Bayesian regularization neural network with MICP, NMR and petrophysical logs

Yanqiu Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper studies the determination of pore size distribution (PSD) in tight gas sandstones using mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and petrophysical logs. The results show that accurate PSD can be obtained with the Bayesian regularization neural network (BRNN) models, with NMR and petrophysical logs as inputs. The study provides valuable insights into the quantitative evaluation of pore structure in complex reservoirs.

Effect of stress on permeability of clay silty cores recovered from the Shenhu hydrate area of the South China Sea

Zhun Zhang et al.

Summary: Hydrate saturation and effective stress play crucial roles in controlling permeability in hydrate reservoirs. Experiments on clay silty cores revealed that water permeability increases with effective porosity, which exponentially depends on hydrate saturation and effective stress. Additionally, pore space compression and pore throat clogging significantly reduce water permeability.

Experimental investigation of effects of mica content, Fe and pressure on the pore size distribution and permeability of sandy sediment using proton nuclear magnetic resonance

Sho Kimura et al.

Summary: The study evaluates sediment permeability in sandy sediments using H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements, with the results showing that the method's performance is influenced by material mineralogy and pore/grain size distribution, and faster T-2 relaxation is observed with increasing mica content. Estimates using the Schlumberger Doll Research and Timur-Coates models were found to overestimate permeability at 1.0 MPa in samples with 20-50 wt% mica content.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Transverse Surface Relaxivity in Quartzitic Sands Containing Gas Hydrate

Lele Liu et al.

Summary: The study utilized a combination of low-field NMR and X-ray CT to quantify the NMR rho(2) values in quartzitic sands with different xenon hydrate saturations. Results showed changes in NMR rho(2) values due to the presence of xenon hydrate in pores, and theoretical models were proposed based on different pore habits.

A testing assembly for combination measurements on gas hydrate-bearing sediments using x-ray computed tomography and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance

Zhun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new testing assembly combining X-CT scans and low-field NMR tests to determine the pore-scale characteristics of gas hydrate-bearing sediments in situ. The results show that gas hydrate pores occur in a mixture of grain-coating, cementing, pore-filling, and patchy clusters, with the peak pore size increasing with decreasing hydrate saturation. The transverse surface relaxivity dependence on hydrate pore occurrences ranges from 67.1 to 129.3 mu m/s when the hydrate saturation is lower than 0.4, indicating a promising potential for understanding the structure evaluation of pore space during gas recovery.

Insights into the climate-driven evolution of gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments: implications for prediction of environmental impacts and security of energy in cold regions

Mehrdad Vasheghani Farahani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments against environmental temperature change. Experimental results reveal the influence of complex pore-scale factors on elastic wave velocities and effective thermal conductivity (ETC). The research emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between ice and gas hydrates in frozen sediments for accurate quantification of natural gas hydrate as a sustainable energy resource.
