Enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible-light using C, N co-doped mesoporous TiO2 nanocrystals templated by ionic liquids

Qianqian Hu et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing C, N co-doped mesoporous TiO2 nanocrystals, using IL-assisted microwave synthesis, resulting in small-sized TiO2 with well-developed mesoporous structure and abundant C, N dopants. The material exhibits high specific-surface area, excellent hydrophilicity, elevated valence-band edges, abundant defect levels, and narrowed band-gap, leading to improved visible-light absorption, reduced photogenerated electron-hole recombination, and rapid charge transfer and surface-catalyzed reactions.

In-situ grown N, S co-doped graphene on TiO2 fiber for artificial photosynthesis of H2O2 and mechanism study

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: Artificial photosynthesis is a promising strategy for converting solar energy into environmental-friendly H2O2. In this study, a highly efficient photocatalyst for H2O2 production was developed through dioxygen reduction. The photocatalyst, prepared by doping N and S on graphene onto TiO2 nanofibers, achieved a significantly higher H2O2 yield compared to pure TiO2. This work not only provides a novel approach to enhance photocatalytic performance but also sheds light on the mechanism behind the improved H2O2 production.

Rational Design of High-Concentration Ti3+ in Porous Carbon-Doped TiO2 Nanosheets for Efficient Photocatalytic Ammonia Synthesis

Qing Han et al.

Summary: The study presents porous carbon-doped anatase TiOx (C-TiOx) nanosheets with high-concentration active sites of Ti3+ obtained through a reproducible bottom-up approach. It demonstrates that the high-concentration Ti3+ sites play a vital role in enhancing N-2 photoreduction activity. Combined with the morphology of porous nanosheets and the loading of a Ru/RuO2 cocatalyst, the optimized C-TiOx shows a high NH3 production rate and remarkable quantum efficiency under visible-light irradiation, outperforming current TiO2-based photocatalysts.

Characterisation of oxygen defects and nitrogen impurities in TiO2 photocatalysts using variable-temperature X-ray powder diffraction

Christopher Foo et al.

Summary: TiO2-based powder materials have been extensively studied as efficient photocatalysts, especially nitrogen-doped TiO2, which exhibits visible-light absorption but the structure-activity relationship and photocatalytic mechanism remain unclear. A study on rutile, anatase and mixed phases revealed that nitrogen-doping improves photocatalytic activity and enhances oxygen vacancy formation. Additionally, a new cubic titanium oxynitride phase was identified in highly doped anatase, providing insight into the fundamental shift in absorption wavelength for excellent photocatalysis.

S-doped TiO2 photocatalyst for visible LED mediated oxone activation: Kinetics and mechanism study for the photocatalytic degradation of pyrimethanil fungicide

Tao Li et al.

Summary: The degradation of pyrimethanil (PYR) was efficiently achieved through the activation of oxone by the S-TiO2 (ST) photocatalyst with an optimal molar ratio of S/Ti at 0.25. Various reaction parameters and reactive species generated in the process influenced the degradation efficiency, while the reusability test demonstrated the stability of the ST photocatalyst. Overall, the ST/Oxone/Vis LED process showed potential for removing organic pollutants with the generation of different degradation intermediates through multiple pathways.

Summary: The NiTiO3/Cd0.5Zn0.5S heterostructures exhibit efficient and stable hydrogen production under visible light, capturing the optical spectrum and enhancing the transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. The optimized photocatalyst achieves a high H-2 production rate and apparent quantum yield, with high stability attributed to the Z-schematic charge separation mechanism. A possible H-2 evolution mechanism over the NiTiO3/Cd0.5Zn0.5S heterostructures is proposed based on band structures, DFT calculations, and ESR tests.
