A Trojan horse strategy towards robust Co-N4 active sites accommodated in micropore defect-rich carbon nanosheets for boosting selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes

Qingshan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study reports the development of a highly active and selective single-atom cobalt catalyst for the selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes. The catalyst shows excellent hydrogenation activity and selectivity under mild reaction conditions, as well as remarkable stability and reusability.

Identification of Single-Atom Ni Site Active toward Electrochemical CO2 Conversion to CO

Haesol Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that the broken ligand-field symmetry is key for active CO2 electrolysis, which leads to an increase in the Ni redox potential yielding Ni-I, and is directly related to the stability of the Ni center. This suggests a new direction for rational ligand-field engineering of single-atom Ni catalysts for efficient CO2 electrolysis.

Increasing Accessible Subsurface to Improving Rate Capability and Cycling Stability of Sodium-Ion Batteries

Bo Yin et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the mechanism for improving the rate capability of carbonaceous anode through heteroatom doping is not as traditionally believed, which is to increase the diffusion-controlled capacity by expanding the interlayer spacing. Instead, it is found that doping has little impact on interlayer spacing in the bulk phase, but can significantly expand the spacing in the subsurface region when syngergized with tensile stress. This leads to improved accessibility of the subsurface region at high current densities, resulting in higher specific capacity and cycling stability for the electrodes.

First-Principles Study on the Mechanism of Nitrobenzene Reduction to Aniline Catalyzed by a N-Doped Carbon-Supported Cobalt Single-Atom Catalyst

Haohao Wang et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the N-doped carbon-supported cobalt single-atom catalyst plays an important role in the reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline, with the single H-induced dissociation mechanism favoring the reaction. When using H2 as the hydrogen source, the rate-determining step of the overall reaction is the dissociation of hydrogen in the presence of nitrobenzene.

Regulation of functional groups on graphene quantum dots directs selective CO2 to CH4 conversion

Tianyu Zhang et al.

Summary: Functionalized graphene quantum dots can efficiently convert CO2 to CH4, with the yield of CH4 positively correlated to the electron-donating ability of the functional groups. The electron-donating groups play a significant role in regulating the reactivity of graphene quantum dots in CO2 electro-reduction, providing insight into the design of active carbon catalysts for this process.
