Modulating Hydrogen Adsorption via Charge Transfer at the Semiconductor-Metal Heterointerface for Highly Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Catalysis

Yuhang Liu et al.

Summary: Designing and synthesizing efficient and stable electrocatalysts is important for the hydrogen economy. Interfacial engineering is an effective strategy to optimize the kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by inducing electron transfer. In this study, ultrafine RhP2/Rh nanoparticles embedded in N,P co-doped graphene were synthesized, and they exhibit outstanding HER performances under all pH conditions. The interfacial electron transfer from metallic Rh to semiconductive RhP2 enhances the HER kinetics, and activates the dual-site synergistic effect of Rh and P in neutral and alkaline environments, promoting faster HER kinetics.

Fe-doping induced localized amorphization in ultrathin α-Ni(OH)2 nanomesh for superior oxygen evolution reaction catalysis

Yanhui Song et al.

Summary: Local structure and crystallinity are critical in the catalytic activity of catalysts, and the formation of amorphous phase can significantly enhance catalytic performance. This study successfully achieved controlled amorphization of ultrathin two-dimensional α-Ni(OH)2 nanomeshes through Fe doping, leading to localized amorphization that accelerated reaction kinetics and improved overall performance for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The strong correlation between OER activity and amorphization rate suggests that doping-induced localized amorphization provides more accessible active sites and favorable local chemical environments than fully crystallized structures.
