Precision holography for 5D Super Yang-Mills

Fridrik Freyr Gautason et al.

Summary: This article studies the 1/2-BPS Wilson loop operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on S-5. The vacuum expectation value of these operators can be computed exactly at large N using supersymmetric localization. The holographic dual to this theory is realized geometrically by a stack of N D4-branes in ten dimensions with a spherical worldvolume. The authors use holography to compute the vev of the circular Wilson loop by evaluating the partition function of a fundamental string in this background. They focus on the next-to-leading order correction to the string partition function, which involves the dilaton coupling and the one-loop fluctuations of the worldsheet. They resolve various issues related to the non-constant dilaton and UV divergences, and obtain a finite result that matches the corresponding vev ratio on the gauge theory side.

Dark holograms and gravitational waves

Francesco Bigazzi et al.

Summary: The spectra of stochastic gravitational waves generated in cosmological first-order phase transitions are computed within strongly correlated theories with a dual holographic description. The study considers bubble collisions and sound waves arising from two types of first-order phase transitions and finds that the gravitational wave spectra may be within the sensitivity range of ground-based and space-based interferometers, as well as Pulsar Timing Arrays, depending on the model parameters. The research also explores characteristic spectra with double frequency peaks when two phase transitions occur at different critical temperatures.

Bubble wall velocity at strong coupling

Francesco Bigazzi et al.

Summary: In this study, the steady-state velocity of expanding vacuum bubbles nucleated within chiral finite temperature first-order phase transitions in strongly coupled large N QCD-like models is determined using holographic correspondence as a tool. The friction force exerted by the plasma on the bubbles and the steady-state velocity are calculated. The phase transitions are related to changes in the embedding of flavor branes probing the black hole background in a top-down holographic description.

Overcounting of interior excitations: a resolution to the bags of gold paradox in AdS

Joydeep Chakravarty

Summary: This work investigates how single-sided and eternal black holes can contain a vast number of semiclassical excitations in their interior, proposing a new solution to resolve the paradox in entropy. By describing the interior of black holes in Hilbert space, the resolution of the paradox arising from the orthogonal relationships between these excitations is provided.
