A dilaton-axion model for string cosmology

J. G. Russo et al.

Summary: This study generalizes the scale-invariant theory of an axion and a dilaton coupled to gravity to a 'universal' one-axion model with two dilatons that reproduces itself under consistent dimensional-reduction/truncation. It shows that flat FLRW cosmologies correspond to trajectories of a three-dimensional autonomous dynamical system and analyzes them with a focus on accelerated cosmic expansion, deriving precise swampland bounds that exclude eternal acceleration.

Automated consistent truncations and stability of flux compactifications

David Andriot et al.

Summary: Classical flux compactifications are an important research field in string theory, providing a testing ground for various conjectures. This paper focuses on type II supergravity compactifications on 6d group manifolds towards 4d maximally symmetric spacetimes, and develops a code for automated calculations and analysis.

Exploring the landscape of (anti-) de Sitter and Minkowski solutions: group manifolds, stability and scale separation

David Andriot et al.

Summary: In this paper, we classify and study certain supergravity solutions with different spacetime properties. Using new numerical tools, we discover previously unexplored solutions and analyze their properties and stability. We propose a new conjecture regarding the existence of a flat direction.

Charting the landscape of (anti-) de Sitter and Minkowski solutions of 10d supergravities

David Andriot et al.

Summary: This paper classifies solutions of 10-dimensional type IIA/B supergravity theories with orientifolds on a 4-dimensional maximally symmetric spacetime multiplied by a 6-dimensional group manifold. It explores previously unexplored solution classes and discovers new solutions including (anti-) de Sitter solutions with intersecting O-4, O-6 and O-6, and Minkowski solutions with 3 intersecting O-5. The paper also presents new no-go theorems against (anti-) de Sitter solutions and conjectures the absence of de Sitter solutions for 2 or less intersecting source sets, indicating that a 4-dimensional effective theory with de Sitter solutions is at most N = 1 supersymmetric.

Intricacies of classical de Sitter string backgrounds

David Andriot et al.

Summary: This article discusses two newly discovered 10-dimensional supergravity de Sitter solutions and analyzes whether they can be promoted to classical string backgrounds. Despite some positive partial results, both solutions ultimately fail to simultaneously fulfill all requirements. The analysis emphasizes various subtleties and discusses the relation to the problem of scale separation.

Four-Dimensional Null Energy Condition as a Swampland Conjecture

Heliudson Bernardo et al.

Summary: The article analyzes the null energy condition in four-dimensional cosmological theories and proposes a new swampland conjecture that 4D NEC is a consistency requirement for any theory to be complete within M theory. It also briefly discusses the cosmological implications of this condition derived from M theory.

Rollercoaster cosmology

Guido D'Amico et al.

Summary: Inflation does not have to occur all at once, and can be solved by a series of short bursts of cosmic acceleration interrupted by brief periods of decelerated expansion. This allows for more flexibility in theory and can lead to interesting predictions regarding scalar and tensor spectra of perturbations at short wavelengths. Future CMB spectroscopy searches and primordial gravity probes may help test these features and reveal potential populations of rare particles or primordial black holes as dark matter.
