AdS5 holography and higher-derivative supergravity

Nikolay Bobev et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate four-derivative corrections to 5d N = 2 minimal gauged supergravity using tools from conformal supergravity. We identify two supersymmetric invariants and construct the action in the Poincare frame in terms of their coefficients. Applying these results in holography, we find that the four-derivative terms in the supergravity action lead to corrections in the conformal anomalies of the dual 4d N = 1 SCFT. We also analyze the corrections to the entropy of supersymmetric black string solutions and discuss the explicit embeddings of 5d supergravity in string and M-theory to determine the higher-derivative coefficients in terms of microscopic parameters.

Higher-derivative holography with a chemical potential

Pablo A. Cano et al.

Summary: We have conducted an extensive study on the holographic aspects of higher-derivative Einstein-Maxwell theories in any dimension. By introducing electromagnetic quasitopological gravities and imposing various physical constraints, we have analyzed charged black hole solutions, thermodynamic properties at finite chemical potential, shear viscosity to entropy density ratio, and charged Renyi entropies. Our results show the possibility of achieving zero viscosity to entropy density ratio and preserving the usual properties of Renyi entropies while satisfying the physical constraints.

Sub-leading structures in superconformal indices: subdominant saddles and logarithmic contributions

Alfredo Gonzalez Lezcano et al.

Summary: The study focuses on various sub-leading structures in the superconformal index of N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with SU(N) gauge group, utilizing saddle-point approximation and Bethe-Ansatz approach to find perfect agreement, including a logarithmic correction of log N. Generalizing these methods to cover 4d N = 1 superconformal theories reveals consistent approximations across different scenarios.

A 4d N=1 Cardy Formula

Joonho Kim et al.

Summary: This study examines the asymptotic behavior of the (modified) superconformal index for 4d N = 1 gauge theory, finding that the 'high-temperature limit' of the index can be expressed in terms of conformal anomalies. Moreover, the macroscopic entropy of the interacting SCFT system is derived from the asymptotic free energy when certain bounds are satisfied. Additionally, the Carby limit of the index for N = 1 theories dual to AdS(5) x Y-p,Y-p is found to explain the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large black holes.

The 4d superconformal index near roots of unity and 3d Chern-Simons theory

Arash Arabi Ardehali et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the S-3 x S-1 superconformal index I(tau) of 4d N = 1 gauge theories, with an asymptotic expansion revealing the coefficients of different terms and the growth of the 4d index being governed by background Chern-Simons couplings. This expansion provides insight into the behavior of the index as q approaches a root of unity, shedding light on the underlying mechanisms of the system.

The first law and Wald entropy formula of heterotic stringy black holes at first order in α′

Zachary Elgood et al.

Summary: Using Wald's formalism, the study derives the first law of black hole mechanics in the context of the Heterotic Superstring effective action to first order in alpha, resulting in a manifestly gauge- and Lorentz-invariant entropy formula. By considering momentum maps and restricted generalized zeroth laws in the proof, the study establishes the relation between the derived entropy formula and other formulas used in the literature.

Higher-derivative supergravity, AdS4 holography, and black holes

Nikolay Bobev et al.

Summary: Utilizing conformal supergravity techniques, this study explores four-derivative corrections in four-dimensional gauged supergravity. The four-derivative Lagrangian for the N=2 gravity multiplet's propagating degrees of freedom is shown to be determined by two real dimensionless constants, with all solutions of the two-derivative equations of motion also solving the four-derivative equations of motion. The study also provides explicit calculations of the effects of four-derivative terms on black hole solutions and expands the results to include matter multiplets in the presence of higher-derivative terms.

Expanding on the Cardy-like limit of the SCI of 4d N=1 ABCD SCFTs

Antonio Amariti et al.

Summary: We study the Cardy-like limit of the superconformal index for generic N = 1 SCFTs, providing strong evidence for a universal formula that captures the behavior of the index at finite order in rank and angular momentum fugacities. Our proposal is validated by studying several examples beyond the well-understood toric class. Additionally, we compute the index for models without a weakly-coupled gravity dual, with gravitational anomalies not of order one.

EFT and the SUSY index on the 2nd sheet

Davide Cassani et al.

Summary: In this study, a 3d Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach was used to investigate the counting problem of BPS states in four-dimensional N = 1 theories, focusing on the microstates and phases of supersymmetric black holes in AdS(5). The existence of vector multiplet zero modes and a non-perturbative confinement mechanism were found to ensure the robustness of the results, avoiding the runaway behavior observed in previous studies.

Gravity interpretation for the Bethe Ansatz expansion of the N=4 SYM index

Ofer Aharony et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the superconformal index of N = 4 SU(N) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, as well as its relationship with the AdS/CFT correspondence, particularly in the context of counting microstates of 1/16-BPS black holes. It is found that solutions to the Bethe Ansatz equations have a one-to-one mapping with (complex) Euclidean black hole solutions, highlighting the connections between the two sides in terms of both classical gravity action and nonperturbative corrections.

Supersymmetry of higher-derivative supergravity in AdS4 holography

Pietro Benetti Genolini et al.

Summary: A recent proposal for higher-derivative corrections to minimal gauged Euclidean supergravity in four dimensions was made. It was shown that the supersymmetric solutions of this model correspond to those of the two-derivative action, and some of their properties were investigated. In particular, a formula for the renormalized on-shell action was proven in terms of contributions from fixed points of a U(1) action, and it was confirmed to be invariant under deformations preserving the boundary almost contact structure.

Stringy corrections to the entropy of electrically charged supersymmetric black holes with AdS5 x S5 asymptotics

Joao F. Melo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the leading alpha' corrections to the entropy of certain black holes with AdS(5) x S-5 asymptotics, finding that in the supersymmetric limit, the entropy remains uncorrected. This result strengthens recent calculations matching the index of N = 4 super-Yang-Mills with the corresponding partition function in the supersymmetric limit, and also shows that entropy corrections in the small temperature regime are consistent with the weak gravity conjecture.
