3D Discretized Rotational Failure Mechanism for Slope Stability Analysis

Ze-Hang Qian et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a new 3D failure mechanism for steep slopes using a spatial discretization technique, which can be used to assess the stability of slopes involving multilayered soils or spatially variable soils. The performance of the proposed method shows good agreements with previously published results and numerical modelings.

Judgement of rapid drawdown conditions in slope stability analysis

Xiao-ping Hou et al.

Summary: The rapid drawdown of reservoir may impact the stability of adjacent slopes, so it is important to calculate the change of slope safety factor beforehand. Using finite element method to analyze transient seepage and introducing pore water pressures into stability computation can determine the transient safety factor. The impact of drawdown speed and slope parameters on safety factor ratio is considered, with rapid drawdown conditions needing special attention in slope stabilization design.
