Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy for polymers

Shuyu Xu et al.

Summary: Coherent anti-stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy is a label-free chemical imaging technique that can detect local molecular composition and orientation. Compared to traditional Raman spectroscopy, CARS generates significantly stronger signals for high-throughput and large-area imaging. This review provides an overview of CARS microscopy in polymer science and discusses the opportunities and challenges of using it as a quantitative measurement method.

Analytical Methods for Iron and Zinc Quantification in Plant Samples

Dinakaran Elango et al.

Summary: Biofortification is a sustainable solution to alleviate iron and zinc deficiency in food, with XRF being an efficient and economical tool for screening a large number of genotypes or breeding materials in biofortification programs. XRF is likely to replace ICP-OES, AAS, and colorimetric methods in large-scale screening steps, allowing for the quick identification of desired genomes. This review aims to provide an overview of commonly used analytical techniques for quantifying Fe and Zn contents in plant samples.

Raman imaging reveals in-situ microchemistry of cuticle and epidermis of spruce needles

Nadia Sasani et al.

Summary: This study explored the native cuticle and epidermal layer of Norway spruce needles using Raman imaging and polarization experiments. Results showed a waxy, crystalline layer on top and strong signals of coumaric acid and flavonoids in the lipidic amorphous cuticle beneath. Non-negative matrix factorization provided the purest component spectra and promoted band assignments, enhancing our understanding of plant cuticle structure and composition.
